Default Formatting the Glacier it now returns 128MB

Purchased a 2GB Glacier from Uxcell direct from their website on the 16/2 and it arrived yesterday. Item no:mv0blk2048mp039

I was impressed until I came to load some music onto it. The files appeared to copy ok but the player only recognised the first album. After reading through the posts on this forum and then formatting the Glacier it now returns 128MB as its memory size, what a disappointment.

Just emailed UXCELL so lets hope I get a replacement quickly. Anyone know if they will reimburse whatever it costs me to return the player?

For now I would definitely recommend that these players are avoided until Uxcell sort out what's happening. Hopefully this isn't a deliberate attempt to rip people off.

Why would they deliberatly try and rip people off by hacking the memeory and then turn around and send people replacement units?

This guy had the same problem and they sent him a new one that was fine.

No, its NOT a "deliberate attempt to rip people off". It costs them money to replace defective units like that. They might be down for the chinese new year, so expect to wait for a response, but you will get a replacement either way. You'll also have to wait to find out if you need to return the old player, because no one here can tell you that. If you do, just send the old player in an envelope sans battery, it weighs like 50grams, so it shouldnt be that much to ship.

If everyone took your advice and avoided Glaciers just because you got a unit with less mem, then all those other people who did not get such units would have to suffer, wouldnt they. Judging by the amount of complaints like yours around here, its only like about 2% that may end up with a unit like yours. Hardly enough to recommend avoiding them altogether.

Steveamos, how many clusters are counted after a format of the player?

I didn't mean to make it sound like UXCELL are crooks, but more that they 'appear' to have poor quality control and that their suppliers either have defective stock or they supplied fake products.

It reports 1945231 sectors in the disk tool utility.

Note that after a week I still haven't received a reply to my email. In my opinion this is very poor customer service no matter what the problem is.

Thanks for any help you can provide though. Frustrated :x

That I can more or less agree with.

I've got a Chinese seller on eBay whom I've sent 20 emails to and a month after I won the auction, I still havent even got a shipping confirmation from him. Took a week just to get a confirmation that I won...

steveamos1234,

You probably get a reply because of the Chinese New Years holiday. They usually take the week off during that time. Have you heard from them yet?

Let me know and I'll see what I can do for you.

Well what can I say. UXCELL are now responding to my emails, but I might as well be talking to myself. They appear to simply not read the email at all!!

See below starting at the bottom:

__________

PLEASE READ THE EMAIL BEFORE RESPONDING TO IT!!!

I'm sorry but you are simply sending standard responses without even reading my email.

1. The player when received would not play files correctly. What I mean by this is that the files appeared to copy correctly, but when I attempted to play them back the player would play a completely different song or nothing at all.

2. I then attempted to copy a large file onto the player (500MB) and copy it back to the PC. This failed as the PC reported errors reading the file.

3, I then reformatted the player using the MP3 tools program and instructions I found on the UXCELL forum of mympxplayer.

4. After formatting the player now reports 103MB and not 2GB

5. I purchased a 2GB player but in effect I have a 103MB player

6. Please either tell me what I am doing wrong or provide a replacement player.

Thank you

Steve Amos

Dear customer,

Due to the limitation of the two digits display on the screen, the player will
limit maximum of 99 files under the root directory. Please create more first
level folders and store maximum of 99 files under each folder.
