Pearl Z not recognized

Computers tested on:
1 Windows XP
1 Windows XP
1 Windows 98

Problem:
Player does not get recognized by Windows.

The player knows when it gets connected and disconnected from the PC, as it will change status. But the PC does not see it.

The player will charge using the USB connection to the PC.

The player seems to work fine otherwise, the stuff that was preloaded on it plays just fine.

I tried on two seperate Windows XP machines with no success, and also tried it on a Windows 98 PC with no success...even after installing the 98 driver.

I was going to try my girlfriends USB cable from her "Full Metal Platinum" but it is not the same type.*

Please advise as to what to do with this unit.

I like the FMP that my girlfriend has, and would like very much to get this Pearl Z working, replaced, or exchanged for a different player.

*UPDATE: I managed to try another USB cable, and it still did not work. I think we can rule the cable out as the problem now.
