i can finally get a new player!

Well after saving for 3 months, I now can afford a 50 dollar player, because I now have 50 dollars and i get 5 every week, sumtimes more because i sell iPod cases 5 bucks each and i got 6 for $6.
Well anyways, I went to look at the glacier on UXcell 1 minute ago because of it's 2 inch screen. I've known about the glacier for a VERY long time, who hasn't? but now i saw a vid on YouTube because I was considering buying it, and it looks really nice.
I went on UXcell to check out the glacier when i saw a "Spectrum" It has a 2inch screen aswell, but I think it costs a little bit more. Is the Spectrum any good?
Oh, and why did UXcell take off all the nano clones?

also, does anybody have a modded glacier?

my suggestion is to go for another player; the glacier seem to have a high failure rate

what do you think about the spectrum?

nidebaba 29th Mar 2007 8:32 pm

well my experience with the glacier, the paint on the buttons is wearing out and dust can easily get in between the gaps...the spectrum is probably a better bet. The Glacier does have a replaceable battery but I don't think that's too much of a deal until later. Right now my Glacier has its own share of problems: one of the USB pins, specifically the power pin, is broken. The only way I can charge it now is through the use of an external charger, which I bought on Ebay a few days ago.

If you really want a good player, you could always save up some more and go for the Meizu or something. Otherwise, I'd go for the Spectrum.

edit: added my problem w/ the glacier

I want a good player but I can't afford it. I know that the meizu's and the teclast's are better.
oh, is the glacier slow? is it slow as the nano clones or pretty fast?

nidebaba 29th Mar 2007 8:40 pm

The Glacier...there's always this 1-2 second pause when browsing through folders with a lot of files. So I'd assume its as slow as the nano clones.

pmilladcs 29th Mar 2007 8:46 pm

1-2 seconds pause between each file?
as in

sample1.jpg
(press next)
(wait 1-2 sec)
sample2.jpg
(press next)
(wait 1-2 sec)
sample3.jpg
(press next)
(wait 1-2 sec)
sample4.jpg
(press next)
(wait 1-2 sec)

if so i think my broken player is (was) a bit faster

nidebaba 29th Mar 2007 9:02 pm

no i mean when entering a another directory...when selecting files, its a bit faster. It's probably around the same speed as the nano clones.

Personally, I'm having some problems with it not registering my button presses properly (ie goes back to playback menu when i pressed down), so browsing does get a little annoying.

Personally I'd choose the Spectrum.
Lets face it, how reliable is the Glacier? How many times have we heard bad reports and the number of times buyers have had to send them back with problems?
I was going to get a Glacier, but have gone off the idea now. All they need is a few more colours for the Spectrum and i reckon it'll be as popular as the Full Metal Platinums.
