i can finally get a new player!

Well after saving for 3 months, I now can afford a 50 dollar player, because I now have 50 dollars and i get 5 every week, sumtimes more because i sell iPod cases 5 bucks each and i got 6 for $6.
Well anyways, I went to look at the glacier on UXcell 1 minute ago because of it's 2 inch screen. I've known about the glacier for a VERY long time, who hasn't? but now i saw a vid on YouTube because I was considering buying it, and it looks really nice.
I went on UXcell to check out the glacier when i saw a "Spectrum" It has a 2inch screen aswell, but I think it costs a little bit more. Is the Spectrum any good?
Oh, and why did UXcell take off all the nano clones?

that is the spectrum

that is the glacier

pmilladcs 29th Mar 2007 5:51 pm

also, does anybody have a modded glacier?

nidebaba 29th Mar 2007 8:12 pm

my suggestion is to go for another player; the glacier seem to have a high failure rate

what do you think about the spectrum?

nidebaba 29th Mar 2007 8:32 pm

well my experience with the glacier, the paint on the buttons is wearing out and dust can easily get in between the gaps...the spectrum is probably a better bet. The Glacier does have a replaceable battery but I don't think that's too much of a deal until later. Right now my Glacier has its own share of problems: one of the USB pins, specifically the power pin, is broken. The only way I can charge it now is through the use of an external charger, which I bought on Ebay a few days ago.

If you really want a good player, you could always save up some more and go for the Meizu or something. Otherwise, I'd go for the Spectrum.

edit: added my problem w/ the glacier

I want a good player but I can't afford it. I know that the meizu's and the teclast's are better.
oh, is the glacier slow? is it slow as the nano clones or pretty fast?

nidebaba 29th Mar 2007 8:40 pm

The Glacier...there's always this 1-2 second pause when browsing through folders with a lot of files. So I'd assume its as slow as the nano clones.

pmilladcs 29th Mar 2007 8:46 pm

1-2 seconds pause between each file?
as in

sample1.jpg
(press next)
(wait 1-2 sec)
sample2.jpg
(press next)
(wait 1-2 sec)
sample3.jpg
(press next)
(wait 1-2 sec)
sample4.jpg
(press next)
(wait 1-2 sec)

if so i think my broken player is (was) a bit faster

nidebaba 29th Mar 2007 9:02 pm

no i mean when entering a another directory...when selecting files, its a bit faster. It's probably around the same speed as the nano clones.

Personally, I'm having some problems with it not registering my button presses properly (ie goes back to playback menu when i pressed down), so browsing does get a little annoying.

_Odyssey 30th Mar 2007 1:47 am

Personally I'd choose the Spectrum.
Lets face it, how reliable is the Glacier? How many times have we heard bad reports and the number of times buyers have had to send them back with problems?
I was going to get a Glacier, but have gone off the idea now. All they need is a few more colours for the Spectrum and i reckon it'll be as popular as the Full Metal Platinums.

Save up a lil bit more and get the Teclast C260. It is on sale on HOD. $65.00 + shipping. The spectrum looks nice, but I think that it's a glacier with out the good nokia battery and it has better look. Not worth it.

Oh yeah didn't think about the battery.. hmmm. Well UXcell have a "Tell us your dream product!" suggestion box on the site, maybe we should start using it.

THANK YOU! i didn't see that teclast, it's a really good deal. i'll save till i can can get it, just 20 more dollars cuz i have 45 bucks

nanocopyuser 30th Mar 2007 5:12 pm

But the shipping is 20 dollars more :( so you gotta save up 40 dollars more. But still, it's cheap and the Teclast is great and will last very long compared to Spectrum and Glacier. Maybe you should borrow money from someone?

that is really cheap but i dont feel like paying 105 bucks for a 1gb mp4 player. when i was 12 i got the crappyest mp3 player for christmas, 110 DOLLARS!!
but now i'm pretty broke and 100 bucks is too much so i'm gonna stick with chiPods.
by the way, does anybody have a glacier that is modable?
does anybody know exacly which player has firmare that can be modded forsure?
modding is a big thing to me, and i made like 10 mods when i was bored.

nanocopyuser 31st Mar 2007 1:43 pm

No, It isn't 105 dollars. It is: $65.00 + $20 shipping = $85. It is so much better than ChiPods/Glacier. And you won't regret it. I can promise lol. :p

oh i thot 40 bucks shipping my bad lol
yea i know, once i get it i totally wouldn't regret it, but it would take soo long for me to save up for it. i get 5 bucks a week (by the way 2day i got 10 and now i have 55 bucks) and i've been saving for 3 months!
i'll get one this summer when i get a job at like wendy's or something, because this june i'll be 14 and it will be legal for me to work

pmilladcs 31st Mar 2007 2:06 pm

You know what's better than iPod nanos, videos, mp3 players, mp4 players, and rockchip players and crap?
PSP! I would buy it just for the fact that it's a playstation in ur hand, but it plays MP4 videos, music too!
Best PMP in the world!

nanocopyuser 31st Mar 2007 4:15 pm

Playstation?! Sony sucks. So does all the playstation things after PS2. The PS3 is crap.LoL.

PSP doesn't even play DivX. Doesn't have more than 4GB with the memory stick. The battery time for video and games on PSP is very short. It's very expensive (you can get a Meizu 8GB/Teclast T29 8GB for that price! And PSP is so fat and ugly too. The games on the PSP ain't fun, well, if you downgrade to 1,5 and use homebrew, it would be funneh a bit. Nintendo DS is a lot better as a portable console.

The PSP is one of the worst PMP's in the world. There is a lot better out there.

Re: i can finally get a new player!

I was taken by the teclast. i currently have the teclast t29 and i've got it from ebay, but he has a online site look at futuredaps.com, it's still the same price as oh when i bought it. unlike house of dap i was about to sink in and pay shipping that was a crazy high. and i will never trust overseas shipping, and hod has problems with customs sometimes. but future daps did the dirty work for you. they already in the USA. it took my t29 two days to get to my doorstep. but the decision is yours if you mind spending 75+10 for a t29 with supeior sound at futuredaps or 69+20 for a c260 with great video.

nanocopyuser 1st Apr 2007 4:51 am

I bought my T29 from HouseOfDAP, and it was perfect. Both futuredaps.com and houseOfDAP are great. :)
