Default Colada II opinions

Anyone have one of these? My daughter wants an Ipod and I saw this and thought it would be great for her. She is 7 and I think with the dual head phone jacks it would be perfect for her and a friend to watch movies on while on school bus field trips and such. If I get no responses by tomorrow I will purchase it anyway and write a review here when it arrives.

Hi Smitty,

I don't own that player but all I can say is that it would be better IMHO to buy a rockchip player for her. Rockchips are better quality and they can play .avi files directly. Colada is an Action chipset based player and therefore the videos must be converted to .amv before playing. I have the Glacier player and I must say it's quite a pain in the ass to convert the videos because it takes pretty much time. However the Colada features are cool, especially the 2 headphone sockets. Also, the display size is pretty important, at 2 inches i can't see big deal on my player. Rockchips usually are > 2.4 inches and they are much faster .

Just my humble opinion. Hope this helps.

I considered getting one with a Rockchip but the only one I saw was the Omega. When I get one for myself I will probably go with the Omega. I think being able to share a video with a friend is something that she'd really like. Also seeing as how she is only 7 years old Im expecting to go through a replacement display glass or two, and they have replacement glasses for the Colada. I'll be sure to post a review of it when it arrives. Thanks for the input

PS I like the way the glaciers look but Ive heard a few negatives about them here and there which steered me away from my original impulse to get a glacier.

Yup, they have some 'features' hehe. Like they used paper to cover the chips. Imagine that they have the technology to make SOC chips and they use PAPER to hold the board. That's hard to believe. When it first arrived I was shocked. And the speaker is very poor quality, not to mention the headphones. However I am selling it these days and willing to get a PMP (u know, like the ones with nes emulator inside).

Good luck with your buy and we're waiting for the review .

It arrived today and I love it. Im sure before long me and my wife will get one for ourselves! Everything works great on it and it sounds terriffic. The internal speaker is not very loud at all, but with head phones it sounds great. Im still checking out the menus because the instructions are very generic. The only problem that I am having is not with the player but the driver disk that came with it. When I try to install the AMV movie utility on my computer I keep getting a message about error reading from drive for rdiskdll.dll file. I'll probably just have to use a 3rd party AMV converter so no worries there. I'll follow up on this to keep you guys posted.

I got the AMV converter and converted a video but when I try to play the video on the Colada II it plays like the first 5 seconds and then stops. The filesize is the same on my computer as it is on the Colada and the file will play on my computer. Also something to note is that when it is playing the first 5 seconds small squares line the left side of the MP4 players screen. Any ideas?

One last thing is that the sample videos that come with the mp4 player will play fine, so Im sure it is some sort of AMV formatting error that I am making.

You should format the player from your computer using fat 32 , do a full format preferably (Not a quick format) and then re-copy the video from your pc to the player.

Also if you are aware id advise chcking if the player has hacked memory.

I would really hope that the memory isn't hacked seeing as how I bought it from Uxcell.

I'll try that though

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!

Apparently converting a video at 160x128 is somewhat complicated for a 1.8" player. The trick I just had to figure out was that what I needed to do was set the converter resolution at 160x120 and set the video convert to Anticlockwise 90. Now my videos work flawlessly. My next task is to figure out how to increase the volume of my videos.

Maybe we should rename this thread as "A n00b ventures into the world of MP4 players"
