My experience with Uxcell

Hello everyone,

I recently bought 4 players from Uxcell.com. My experience with them so far has been less than positive. Here's my story:

On 8/14 I bought a Rio Ga Ga from Uxcell on eBay. 4 days later I ordered an 4GB Glacier (also on eBay) and two 4GB i-Nickels. The i-Nickels were gifts and i needed them right away so I ordered them with express shipping from their website.

The 2 i-Nickels came on 8/22 (pretty decent ship time). I charged them that night and played the sample song and video to make sure they worked. The next day I gave them away. Almost a week later my friend came over and said that one would play one song, it will start the next song and then reboot. From 8/29 to 9/3 I played email tag with Uxcell's customer support. I wound up finding that the player was hacked and that after formatting the total memory available was only 220MB. Of course they didn't say that, I realized that by reading this forum (thank you). Finally, after telling me to format the drive and reinstall the firmware several times they gave me a RMA # on 9/3. I shipped it on 9/4 and I am waiting to see what happens. BTW, Sunday (9/2) my friend calls again and says the other i-nickel plays fine, but only records for 3 seconds. He's coming over this Saturday and I'll check it out then.I hope this one isn't hacked, too :( .

The Rio Ga Ga came on 8/30 (16 days after I paid for it). It worked perfectly... for about 5 hours. Then it died completely. No sound, no display, nothing. My first thought was that I didn't charge the battery long enough - let me leave it overnight. Did that, player still dead. I emailed Uxcell and started playing email tag again. At this time I'm still trying to resolve the problem with the i-Nickel so my patience is wearing thin. After several emails they told me to try charging this way, then try that way. How many ways can you charge a player? Fortunately, they gave me a RMA on 9/3 so I was able to send it off with the i-Nickel on 9/4 and save on shipping. Again, I am waiting to see what happens.

This brings us to the 4GB Glacier that I bought and paid for on 8/18. I finally received shipping info on 8/28. As of today, 9/6 I still don't have it and I am worried that It won't work when it gets here. Obviouslyl, I am not happy with my experience with Uxcell. Once I get these issues resolved I will not deal with them again. Ironically, their customer support is not that bad. But, I would rather have faster shipping, players that actually worked and bad customer support, than slow shipping, bad players, and good customer support. Next time I'll try houseofdap.com  .

My experience with Uxcell [UPDATE]

Well, I got the Glacier Friday afternoon. I spent most of the day playing with it. To my surprise, everything works. I formatted it and it is a true 4GB player. There are some (good) differences from this Glacier and some of the ones I've read about in this forum. First of all, the front of the display is made of clear plastic not glass. Secondly, the battery cover comes off easily. Overall, I am very happy with it. I haven't tried putting movies on it, but I really didn't buy it for that purpose. BTW, I have a $5 off coupon code from Uxcell, if anyone wants it leave a message or you can email me dsrome[at]gmail[dot]com. I'm happy with the glacier :) , but I'm still not happy with Uxcell :( .

dsrome , there are some "solutions" posted by other members for the loose battery cover. That is to fold a small paper scrap and sit it between the cover and battery, and slide it close.

The idea is to "push" the cover upwards, so that the latches grab on firmly to the casing. You might need to experiment with different thickness of paper until you get a nice fitting. This is very similar to the method of tightening the battery to mobile phones in the past (like ericsson 688, 628, nokia 6110, etc).

I've already gave the coupon code away. Thanks for all the interest.
