I just thought that I would give an update.
I eventually got them to refund me including the postage & packaging but only because I raised a dispute with e-bay and then they threatened me with negative feedback if I flamed them.

The p&p was more than the cost of the player so this was important.

So, in the end a atisfactory outcome because all it cost me was the cost of returning the player to Hong Kong, about £4.00.

I know that this is common practise but it left a dirty taste in the mouth and I would strongly caution against anybody dealing with this company.
