Default Uxcell Nightingale - Help with resume feature

I recently bought this player http://www.uxcell.com/nightingale-mp...k-p-14234.html and it seems fine apart from the usual rubbish headphones and the tiny jack plug requiring an adaptor for a normal set of headphones.

My problem is with starting an mp3 file from the same place from where I paused it. This is a big deal for me as I like to listen to 3 hour podcasts.
The enclosed manual bore no relationship with the player so no help there.

After extensive communication with the vendor I established that I should pause the file then hold the pause until the machine switched off and then turn off the power.

This worked the first few times but not now, ever.

UXCELL now want me to return the package for repair but the postage costs are prohibitive given the value of the machine and anyway, strikes me as probably a software problem.

I'm pretty sure that the return postage should be free under the UK distance selling regulations as I bought through e-bay UK.

Any advice on how to resolve this software problem would be greatly appreciated, if it is a software problem.

Firmware is not currently available from their site for this machine.

Thanks

Charlie

hmmm - very expensive for an unbranded player.

i would just send it back and get a refund and look around for a meizu M6SL player, or anotehr one that may be a bit better supported (see below)

it should not cost much to send back, about 4-5quid airmail

there are better players around from branded chinese companies at similar or lower prices, for audio resume on a massive scale go for the ainol v900, you can add multiple bookmarks for audio so can have several pods on the go at once and always start where you left of

not much use in solving the problem i know but just a thought as i know that the v900 is great for bookmarking on audio, video and ebooks

It was only £26 on e-bay although you get stung for postage.
But I'm coming round to your way of thinking and will ask for a refund as nobody seems to have a solution to what should be a simple problem, least of all the vendor.

It is odd that it was working then not, did you try it on the same file as before and it failed???

problem with these unbranded player is that the problem will never ever get solved with an update, hell, even some of the branded chinese player do not fix these problems.

The thing is to find a player that has this featue by default and hope it works.

i love these types of players but now only buy branded due to things like your and more happening, in the end you loose out, and expecially on general common sense functionality which seems to elude these player, like resume audio, should be standard on all player but it not, not even on my branded RAmos rm970 useing bang up to date chips.

The ainol v900 like i said has excellent resume capabilities, worth a look but more money needed i am afraid.

These player are great value but at what cost ... functionality, or lack of is the cost .. needs to be weighed up as to if its worth it or not

if i could get one delivered from the us to here i would get a 4gb creative zen player at $89 +pandp barign for a brand player like that

thanks makd

Well I'm going from one extreme to the other now.

I want mp3, video and e-book.

I thought of the Zen but no e-book function so now I'm leaning towards an I-river click 2 or one of the Samsung players but I am really new to this subject and don't know the market properly.

Any more sensible/cheaper alternatives would be happily considered.

Is the meizu M6SL same as the ones Dane Elec are selling here http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=141966 looks interesting but no mention of resume?

I can't find a uk seller for ainol but again the ainol v900 and V2000SE look very interesting and competitively priced but I have managed to find a v950 in France.

the meizu has an audio resume feature, basicaly turn it of and then on again and the song will strart from where it left off. No method to add manual bookmarks though like on the ainol v900

the v900 is ok, it has great functionality but i must admit that it hardware is cheap and the player is discontinued, but i lke it purely for simple things like bookmarkin on vids, books and music

ebooks on most devices are really just text files, only a handfull support other things like PDF etc.

am in uk but but from abroad, i use mp4nation now and hav for a while, i am also a mod on their forum so i must admit a little loyalty there

Dane elec version is the meizu - yes, they sell it utside chine to the states and europe so they are the same machine. at the moment the 8gb sl can be bought for $120 ish so its a good deal and one of the BEST players out of china and easily on par with many wester brands

players are many as you have seen, what this site and stores like mp4nation and uxcell sell are chinese made players from chinese based companies (or anonymous factories), they are cheap but not as well refined as more well known players, but they are still good and can be bought for alot less money

there are several sites to look at for BRANDED chinese player
mp4nation
houseofdap
futuredaps
allpmp

are a few, have a look and see what takes your fancy, come back and ask away if there is anything you need to know

Well, I've sent it back and am waiting for the refund.

I've gone a bit daft and am now leaning towards a Cowon iaudio D2 (£120).
I like;

resume
lots of bookmarking
line in recording
good video
lots of video and audio formats supported
.txt file reading
good battery life
It looks to be better and cheaper than the ipod I had to buy my daughter for christmas

advice?

Thanks for the advice.

I almost bought a 4Gb D2 Sunday for £119 but didn't through procrastination.
Yesterday the price had dropped to £99 so I bought one then.

Anyway as I've "gone legit" I suppose that this is goodbye.

Thanks again.
