Default How would you rate your mp4 player?

Ok, well I am just thinking that the newbies who want an MP4 player and have done some investigating might want an overall view of our opinions on them, so how would you rate the following out of 10?
  • Looks
  • Functionality
  • Reliability
  • Price

mine would have to be 9, 9, 10 and 10 and thats being honest

9 for looks as it is quite smart, very smudge prone and the dealer I got it from said they son't scratch yet when I received it there was a scratch on the inside, and the screens do disappoint a little so I changed them :x

9 for functionality because it does a hell of a lot, I thought that the seller was lying when he said it could do all that and when I received it I was quite pleased, and when I discovered this site it made it better because I could alter the crappy screens a little.

10 for reliability as it hasn't broke on me yet, in fact the battery hasnt even gone down much, but i usually keep it in the computer so its always charging.

10 for price definitely because although I was a biut overcharged for posting it came from a UK seller for me so I could guarantee next day delivery. I have the 512MB version with the two speakers and I am pleased with it, best purchase I have made so far

Advice to people who think about buying one, save up for some decent lanyard headphones, because the ones you get suck seriously :x

Here’s my ratings
• Looks – 8.5
• Functionality – 6
• Reliability - 7
• Price – 9.5
I’ve had two 1GB MP4 players now and I’d rate them close to the same. The first was a 1.5” screen with the built in speakers, and knobby thumb control button. The second was a 1.8” screen thin “nano” looking one.

Both look pretty good and are a quite good value for the price. But both have their own weaknesses or annoyances, mostly software related.

The 1.5” featured 4 games which was a nice bonus, and I liked the control button once I got used to it I could change volume and track by just feeling for the knob button through my jacket material. My biggest beef with this player was the lack of file browsing in mp3 player mode and taking around 3 seconds to skip track, it does a little fade in/out thing as well that’s unnecessary. The AMV software has a buggy install and some setting didn’t work with my player but it converted fast and could batch process multiple files.

The 1.8” has a nicer looking MP3 player screen and features a file browser. However I don’t like the buttons, there is no touch reference and it’s easy to press the wrong button. On top of that there are less buttons than the 1.5” had so more function is crammed into the buttons by using quick or long taps. I still have no Idea how to control the volume in video player!! REC will increase but not decrease volume. Controls are very awkward, sometimes menu makes a selection, sometimes it’s play, God only knows why they put a record button because to record FM radio it’s the play button!! I can only get it to record radio at 8Kbits. The SMV tool is so bloody slow its absurd and no batch mode.

Both have annoying “hello / goodbye” screens that I could do without. Both have crappy frame rates on their video format AMV/SMV and to say they are really MP4 players at all is kind of false advertising as far as I’m concerned.

All complaints aside they are neat little rigs and I can’t buy a 1GB thumbdrive around here for less than one of these so that’s why I thing they are good value for price and if someone could just clean up the software they would be so much better.

I would set it up as a poll but it gives people the chance like relaxxx here to explain why they chose it also, thanks for your review

I have a 2Gb Uxcell nano clone and I rate it this way:

9 for Looks: almost identical to the nano, except for the back which is satinated, so it doesn't get dirty as easily
7 for Functionality: the software is ok, but it's slow and there is no way to browse tracks. Also the battery life is very short, and I suspect that by continuously recharging it, it will lose even more life duration.
9 for Reliability: it has not happen anything strange to me yet (knock on wood).
10 for Price: It cost me just over one third of the price of a 2gb ipod nano... ONE THIRD guys.

I think it would be good if you could post the respective images

Mine is
Click the image to open in full size.

Looks: 9
Functionality: 8
Reliability: 9
Price: 7

Characteristics:
1Gb Mp4 player, 1.5' screen, with built in speakers (one in each side).
Two front buttons (loop & Play/Pause), one middle joystick with four directions and pressing function.
It has a "record" button on the right side, as well as an "on/off" button, though it's useless as it resets the player's clock if you turn it off in that way... (The other and most common way to shut it off is pressing for a while the Play button)

Good things:
* The joystick makes easier the navigation between different menues
* The speakers are useful if you are at home, or another not-crowdy place
* The ability to charge the built-in battery via USB port or AAC plug

Not so good things:
* Slow interface
* Boring games (Boxman-Tetris-Winmine-Colorbeads)
* When you stop a song, you have to wait until the "stop" button appears, then you can access the menu
* Weird commands (i.e: To go up or down the menues, you have to pull the joystick left & right)
* Price: 125 USD$

Still not tested: Lyrics support

As I've said before, those items are "not so good things" so even if they are present, they don't affect too much the score given to the player, which qualifies for "Excellent"
