Mboy or Game4 ???
Hey is this true ?:
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the actions board is a mod of the original gameboy board. So, if someone has an old game boy floating around, if you can connect it to your 'puter, then run Udisk on it we may have an answer. Wouldn't be fun to try out firmware mods on an old gameboy so you don't fry your new toy! We may end up with a new hybrid, maybe the Mboy or Game4? :) I |
What’s an “actions” board? Mp4 player boards??
I highly doubt these things are even remotely relates to old gameboys and GB’s don’t even have flashram chip type memory as games were burned on rom chips. I think these contain more cell phone parts than anything. |

*haha* interesting observation. relaxx, "Actions" board one of the manufacturers who make the chip/board for the MP3/MP4 players. There is also Sigmatel and Sunplus. If my memory tells me correctly, I believe Actions was one of the original board manufacturers and Sigmatel copied their board. It's either that or vice versa....(??) |
Re: Mboy or Game4 ???
@ relaxx,
"There is a big possibility that the AMV movie format used by S1mp3 is a rip of 'Apex Media Video' for Nintendo Game Boy (Color). Older info on it can be found at the Apex Designs page Apex claim pretty good compression ratios and it is capable of being decoded on GB. It is possible that AMV is a rip-off of that codec, mainly considering both devices work with a Z80-based instruction set. The company haven't replied to the email sent about the issue. " From: http://www.s1mp3.org/wiki/index.php/AMV and: http://www.apex-designs.net/payback_gba_report6.html My son has a GB, but I don't know the 1st thing about them. It looks like my 1st post may be correct. Does anyone want to try this ? How about just loading an AMV file into a gameboy... |
hey iridium i just wanted to put in a word to you... i used to program GBA's back in the day... couldnt do it now if i wanted too.... in order to play a video you need something to make the GBA play the video.... gba has roughly 250 KB of ram you could upload the video too... but it's gonna need the instructions uploaded to the RAM too.... i bet if you went to a GBA fourm with a developers section they could do it for you.... as for me i havent done this stuff with a GBA in 6 years.... i never uploaded videos so i m not sure of the design...
but i bet if you looked around you can find somebody online to ask.... there was a decent sized developers community for the GBA |

Interesting.... It was just a thought anyway. I didn't mean to imply it would be cool to carry around a big bulky GB as your mp4, but rather, could GBA games be ported to work w/ mp4's ? If they're coded to work w/ an actions boards anyway.... Maybe some of the code warriors out there could look into this. Not that I'm interested in doing it, I just want to know if it's possible. |
