chriso, The sellers is being quite misleading when he states the following,

plays MPEG4: DIVX3.11, DIVX4.0, DIVX5.0, XVID, AVI
plays MPEG2: MPG, VOB, (DVD) plays MPEG1: MPG, DAT, (VCD)

it will not play these formats in their native state you will have to convert them to .AMV or .SMV or whatever your player supports. You should get conversion software on a CD that comes with the player or it can be downloaded fom the Downloads>Tools section of this site.

chriso

MPx players as tadad mentioned won't play DIVx in their native form and requires it to be converted firstly before it can be played on your player.

Wow AUD$28 is a good price for 512MB!
Just hope it's 'true' 512MB of storage as some are known to have been hacked to show more memory than what is actually on the player. Best to check this first before doing anything else....

chriso,
Firstly I would load your player to the max with music files and then see if you can play them all without any problems, if so your should be fine.

The only sure way is to open the player and note the memory chip manufacturer (Samsung, Hynix etc) and the serial number. With this information you can do a Google search to find info on the chips specifications. The memory chip is usually the largest chip on the board.

A couple of things before you do this though, as your player is 512MB you should be OK it is usually the 2GB and 4GB versions that run into problems with fake chips. Opening your player will no doubt void any warrenty you may have on your player.

Also, you can try formatting your player as well.
This should clear any possible 'hacks' done to the player to display more memory than it actually has installed. You should do that as well as what tadad suggests about filling up your player the first day you get it. If there are problems, you can notify the buyer straight away rather than too late.
