Hey Binh- Welcome back to the 'net. I gave you up for dead. Glad you're back! This is a great resource and I'm glad we all didn't lose it...

Perspective : Keep in mind that what we are all dealing with here are communists. Not a put down, just a fact. Communists do not respect private property, patents, copyrights, or our intellectual property rights.
Ever wonder why you can buy a dvd of MIB, or the Matrix for 99 cents plus $15 shipping?
It's because they are pirates who steal our content, then sell it back to us for pennies + shipping.
Don't think for a moment that the manufacturer's don't know what they are doing. It's just a way to play into a hot American market, and siphon off some strong American dollars into their country.
Our only defense is knowledge. We can beat them at their own game. Keep them honest with our knowledge of what they are up to.
We have the thing they want: our money. Keep them honest the way we are. There is no free lunch. Demand your money back, file complaints, and report here the sellers who switch names. Hunt them down and expose them here. Keep it up guys. You're doin great. There are now several Ebay chinese merchants on the run from you guys. Track them....
If they give you resistance, send them the article I wrote here on Wikipedia :

I have emailed a few other users who purchased the same unit from this seller to inform them of the scam. Ebay would only let me message about 10 users. F**K I recenty purchased 2 x 2 GIG players from Honk Kong. I only wanted one but didnt realise I had won an earlier auction. I did the nice thing and paid for both. One was from sky_tower and the other eshop3721. Funny enough they both came on the same day from the same place..and both are 1 gig units!!! FFS...

How would you advise to proceed? I cant let them get away with this..

@B00G3r

You can try emailing the seller and see if he answers but i doubt it.
Best thing to do is make a claim with Paypal for 'goods being sold not as described',you usually have to then wait for the seller to respond but that can take some time so 24hrs after you make the claim go back to paypal and escalate it to a 'full claim' (cant remember the complete wording but you will see what i mean when you go back in).
You also have to say what would be acceptable compensation you would accept against the claim,so if you have 1gb and should be 2gb take a look at what the 1gb's sell for, deduct a bit more for all your trouble and see what happens.
If the seller now doesnt repsond Paypal themselves will make the decision.
Dont forget to go back and update your feedback to let others know what a con-artist they are.

Good luck!!!

I bought a ChiPod "4GB" Nano clone (the kind with MENU at the top of the button circle) off eBay from Hong Kong. Yeah, yeah, I know. Massive postage, but AU$83 all up didn't seem too bad.

I assumed it had the hacked problem, because of corrupting and disappearing files. Windows said 4GB, and files went on there, but disconnect the USB, connect again and they're gone.

I reformatted the disk using the tool downloaded from here (after getting a virus warning on the supplied tool) - I had to tell it to format with a secure section then reformat without to get around the "Disk type not supported" message. Now Windows tells me 2GB, and I only had a few files go corrupt, probably as a result of moving them around on the device (or maybe they're at the memory limit - I've never seen a "Drive full" message).

The seller swears that it was checked as 4GB (dubious). So, being an ornery stubborn person, I've cracked it open to look at the chip and get some evidence (probably voiding any kind of refund possibility, but at least I'LL BE RIGHT, and we all know that's what counts). The chip imprint says:

SAMSUNG 622
K9NBG08U5M
PCB0
CAE520HE

According to the Samsung website, that's a 4G x 8bit chip. Am I confused? Well, yes. Have they printed it with a fake chip label? Or could it be an actual 4GB chip, and I've somehow stuffed it up with the formatting?

I'm really confused about the folder file limits people have mentioned. Can I just pile everything into album subfolders under artist folders in the root folder, or not? I kind of expected I'd be able to see song lists, not just folders, but no. And why does the song name scroll so slowly? Hurrah for Chinese knockoffs, hey?

The battery life was advertised as ~8 hours. With the LCD screen set to go off after 5 seconds, I've gotten about 3 hours out of it just playing MP3s. That's rubbish. (By the way, does anyone know what "Darkle" means? Under LCD settings, it has Black and Darkle, which both have sliders, but if I change one then check the other, it's also moved to the same setting. Seems to be the screen poweroff time after a button is pressed, but why have two settings, and why call one Darkle, like Sparkle but Dark?!!! Do they not have Chinese-English dictionaries?)

Any assistance from electronics experts, Windows boffins or reasonably-priced hitmen based in Hong Kong would be gratefully accepted.

Tristan
