Re: hacked "4, 8Gb" player

tadad, thanks for pointing that out. The 160x120 files converted with 3.57 also seem to play smoothly on my 128x128 1.5" player (so far) whereas 160x120 files created with 4.00 have audio problems.

Incidentally, I found that I can have all versions of the converter useable if I install the version normally, copy the folder from "Program Files" into another folder (ie "AMV converter versions"), uninstall using add/remove programs, then install the next version and repeat. I launch the version by clicking on the .exe file for whichever version I wish to use. All versions seem to work normally.

tadad1 15th Oct 2006 3:19 am

jp, Glad it helped, regarding multi installs the installer does a registry search for other version uninstall files so if you delete the uninstall registry keys for each version as you install it you can install them one after the other and retain all your start menu shortcuts.

Glad to hear you had a good experience with a similar player jp. I guess I'll experiment with different settings for video playback etc when I get it to see what works best. I'll definitly try yours and tadad1's suggestions to begin with as I've never tried converting videos for this sort of player before. I think it would be wise to invest in a screen protector as I have already had the screen on my other mp3 player shatter and I don't want that to happen with this new one!

i bought a 2 gb mp4 player from ebay which after formatting shows only 108mb of space.you can find many similar type of item at the ebay and each product comes with the instruction - "plz do not format".

Re: hacked "4, 8Gb" player

instrumentation, I also bought a 2 GB mp4 player from a seller on Ebay to give as a gift but like yours it only shows 108MB of space :?

I copied 2 albums of about 10/11 songs to it, then when I tried to add a third album it said disk full. What going on??

Edit: Ok I just read back to Iridium's first post about BIT vs BYTE and the fact that 2 gigaBIT=256mb. But the player was simple advertised as 2 GB so how was I supposed to know it was gigabits and not gigabytes! I have e-mailed the seller regarding this so it will be interesting to hear their reply...

Re: hacked "4, 8Gb" player

Nico , probably the 2 albums used up almost all of the available 108MB space. Thus giving the disk full error when you try copying more files in.

GB is definitely GigaByte, whereas Gb is Gigabit, notice the caps for the 'B'. These are standard SI units, and if they delibrately list their ads as GB knowing that it is actually Gb, most likely you can win a dispute in ebay.

Re: hacked "4, 8Gb" player

lattesurf, yeah I figured that the two albums used up all the space which is when I realised what I had bought.

The player was listed as 2 GB here. It specifically states: Memory Capacity: 2GB (Samsung flash chip) with the 2 GB in capital letters. Maybe it was an honest mistake on the part of the seller as they seem to deal mostly in clothing items, but I will have to wait to hear back from them before I decide what to do I suppose.

Don't buy any Mp3 or memory card from China!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are all disguised to be 4GB.

Here is a quick clarification :

The issue is BIT versus BYTE. 8 bits=1 byte. (1 Byte of memory is equal to 8 bits of memory).
OK, stay with me.

If a chip is stated as having 1gigaBIT .....(in manufacturer white paper), this is actually equal to 128 true mb. SO....
2 gigaBIT=256mb,
3 gigaBIT=384mb,
4 gigaBIT= 512mb,
8 gigaBIT = 1024mb or 1 true gigaBYTE.
So, you buy a 1gb player from honorable Chinese merchant, you load 1 true gigBYTE of data onto it.
A week later you start playing files past about 119mb and BAM!
The dreaded 'Format error' message....
You reformat w/ windoze, which shows true mb info, and you see you only have 128mb. Files placed on chip up to 119mb play fine. After 119mb, 'Format error' !

You cannot get back something you never had to begin with.

Advice :

1) immediately load mp4 to it's capacity, and play the last files first.
2) if there are errors ( 'format error') on last files, delete them, reload 1 at a time.
3) if there are still errors, save content to HDD, and format using HP format tool
http://www.mympxplayer.com/dload.php...le&file_id=127
or format utility that came with unit.
4) Do NOT partition player. Ever.
5) read capacity data in tool, and in Windows, and compare to stated capacity in Ad.
6) repeat process to verify.
7) if Windows/ hp format tool indicates less memory than stated in the Ad, notify seller immediately that you have a ' hacked player'. This is a deliberate hack by the manufacturer ( not necessarily by the seller) of the player to show more memory than actually resides on the chip.

There is no way to 'recover' memory that was never there to begin with.

8 ) DEMAND A REFUND! .....Before warranty runs out.

This is the only way to stop the manufacturers from ripping us off. Complain. Loudly. In huge numbers. It will eventually help us all.

Iridium

Binh,

If you feel this would be appropriate as a ' sticky ' , please feel free.....

Re: hacked "4, 8Gb" player

jimmylamhk, actually almost 99% of all chipods/nano-clones comes from china. Even those sold in big departmental stores and electronics stores also get their players from china. The only difference is that they sell authentic players with the actual stated memory capacity.

sentforeric@ntlworld.com 30th Oct 2006 3:04 pm

Hello all, this is my first post so please be gentle.
I would just like to add my deep unhappiness at being ripped of with Hong Kong ebay sellers. I too purchased not 1 not 2 but 3 so called 4gb mp players and yes i fell for it bigtime. paid for a total of 12gb and ended up with 25% of the total memory.
(paypal disputes pending).
and the not so helpful sellers:Helen pang + buymall a.k.a. lcdguard A.K.A kcshophk a.k.a.bestmp4 how they sleep at night without night terrors is beyond me.
I would still have gladly bought all 3 players with the less memory at a fair price if the sellers had been honest and upfront.rather than hack the players .as i do like the extras available eg: radio / video / images /games etc. (thank you for reading my gripe.)
