Default Help me find a Nano Clone

Well, I looked and looked and bought a Nano clone, 4 Gb with 1.5 inch screen with firmware 3.5.35. The manual is worthless but thanks to this forum, I was able to locate a manual that translates to normal English. I also have a SanDisk Sansa E250 that I like. My daughter wanted a Nano but I think they are way over priced for the features they offer, so we tried the clone route. I am pleased with the quality of the build and what it can do. Easily worth the price. After further study, I plan to change the firmware to change it to one of the themes that I see on this website.

Now for the issues where I hope that some one can give me some direction. We don't like the earphone plug-in at the side. I would prefer at the top or on the bottom. Also, I think we would prefer a larger 1.8 inch screen. I have looked at several websites and eBay auctions looking for the thin Nano clones that have the earphone jack on the bottom and a 1.8 inch screen, preferrably at least 2 Gb capacity. It seems that none of the website pictures show the sides where the plug-ins are located.

Can someone point me to a Nano clone that meets these specs and also a reputable dealer?

Thanks

I know there are 1.8" screen Nano fakes around that's for sure, but not sure on the location of the earphone jack. You can also ask the seller too about the earphone jack on the bottom.

Reason why I say ask is a lot of them just use GENERIC photos and some players can vary just slightly. It might be worth asking just in case they are using a generic picture.....

I will try to find out and see if I can find anywhere that has them.

I was quite pleased with my new 1.8" chiPod. It's a little thicker than a Nano but much smaller overall. It uses a standard 3.5mm headphone jack (not a 2.5mm cellphone jack). Headphone, USB and mic are on the top, not the side, of the unit. A small, low-volume speaker is on the back. Shipment took 15 days from Hong Kong.

The main thing, for me, was finding units that could directly play ASF or AMV formatted video. A lot of units only support MTV video, which, I understand is not as good. Eventually I hope more lower priced players will play Xvid MOV or WMV directly so you don;t have to go through as much of the video conversion process hassles.

Here's the item I bought. Unfortunately, after selling a ton of various chiPods, the vendor is no longer registered on Ebay.

Thanks for the replies. The unit I have has true 4 Gb memory and I paid only $53.00 + $24 shipping (in USA) so I think that this was a pretty good deal.

Rocker81, unit looks exactly like the one I bought, except in yours, the earphone jack is on the bottom where I prefer it to be. I don't know how many websites and eBay auctions that I looked at and none had pictures that clearly show where the jacks are located liket your link to this auction has a ton of pictures clearly showing where the jacks are located. However, like Admin said, I need to check to make sure that it is in fact the product I will get. I say that because the unit I got originally showed Repeat A/B on the bottom button, but mine cane with Vol on the bottom button. Also, this has only the 1.5 inch screen.

Vegas215.com, that unit is small, small, small. My nano clone came with the silicone jacket (fits and works very well) and even with that on, my unit measures 9 cm x 4 cm x 1 cm. So it is as thick as your unit, but longer. The ad for your chipod makes it look about twice that thickness. This looks like a good possibility but I am still going to hunt for the Nano clone with the 1.8 inch screen and standard? earphone jack on the top or bottom.

I would be very interested to see what happens if you load 4GB's of music/videos onto your player. If you can load it, then play it all without any errors, then WOW! I'm amazed as I have not seen a proper 4GB player and esp for that price.

Also, what will happen if you try FORMATTING your player? Does it still show up as 4GB's afterwards?

Did you buy this from eBay or another online site?

Got it through eBay. Do I format this with FAT or FAT32?

I dumped in 3.55GB of music, pictures, and movies and everything played. Then I formatted the drive with FAT32 and it shows up as 3.98GB under Windows XP

Wow, I'm impressed!
Do you still have the contact details of the eBay seller whom you bought if from?

Just one more question, sorry to do this, but under "MP3 Player Utilities", there is a program called "MP3 Player Disk Tool". If you plug your player into that and use that tool to format your player (choose "low" and make sure the "Encryption and Partition" is set to 0MB), would love to hear the result.

If that still shows up as 3.98GB and you are still able to view all the files (ie: one from the start and one of the last files), then I think we've finally found a TRUE 4GB player that hasn't been hacked! This would be the first so look forward to hearing from you.

Well, you had to go and spoil things. After low formatting as you suggested, it shows 1951 MB. So it would appear that it is just a 2 GB memory instead of 4 GB.

Can't complain too much since I think that is still a pretty good price for 2 GB unit. The 4 GB holy grail has not been found, yet...at least not here.
