I would urge every person to write ebay about their misfortunes with these players, as ebay-china has a pull with some heavy players in the chinese commerce and those guys can put these scammers behind bars.
Remember lost commerce is lost revenue for the chinese goverment and they are not to be screwed around with.
Their laws on taxation and commerce are extremely strict.
Imagine what you get in china for tax evasion.
Couse lot of these guys selling their crappy goods on ebay are pirates and the goverment will go after them if there is a widescale complaints.
Don't believe what the papers tell you about china having everything pirated.
The chinese goverment don't need this kinds of scams as they gonna get hurt in the pocket after all, since everyone here in the west and around the world will not buy anything from them anymore if this trend continues.
As it is there are a lot of problems with chinese goods starting with LCD and Plasma TV's to the very low quality DVD players has been released to the world market.
Most of these produts don't have any kinds of support period.
Let's say you buy a 42" plasma set. Shortly after if it dies (usually will show somekind of a problem, like the screen buffers goes bad and you will have stripes or thick black lines in the screen) or some other problem with the powersupply or tuner or what not, there are virtually NO PARTS available or if you lucky you get a replacement board under warranty but that will only cover about 35-40% of the units.The rest are shit outta luck.
The reason why I'm telling this couse we service these units .
So report the merchant and the type of the unit(like Nanoclone 1.5 inch screen)with a detailed defect so they can go after them and in some cases force them to reemburse the consumers.

Good luck for everyone and buy safely from a reputable merchant with a tons of good feedback.

Quick remark here..I meant the manufacturers who's selling direct these hacked units.

altean, the problem with hacked players seems to be comming quite rampant so you are right a mass of ebay complaints is the only thing that is going to get them to get off their fleecy lined butts and do something about it.

Firstly the problem with this is that most of the eBay sellers that are in 'china' are in Hong Kong, and Hong Kong is not china, the laws are different and frankly no one is going to give a damm if some person in europe/usa etc got some 'hacked player'.

It also not the makers of the player who are hacking them, its normally 3rd party people who buy 256mb/512mb and then change them to look like they hold more memory. Trust me, its near impossible to catch these people.

In the end your complaint is that these cheap chinese products come faulty and without support, well that what you get for buying cheap, not trying to be rude, but you pay for what you get. If you buy a MPX Player and its really cheap, then you better be fully aware that your more than likely will get a 'hacked' player.

In the end the simplest solution to this is be a smart buyer.
