Default to upgrade or not to upgrade

Hi all, its been 2 weeks me and my brother got our mp4 nano clones with the 3.5.37 firmware in both devices

i have noticed that my device doesnt have a hold button but has some extra games in it from my brothers mp4.

i really need the hold button option!

i want to ask u, if i replace my firmware with my brothers (always keeping a buckup!) if the device wont work or go dead, can i put back my original without problems?

i want to expirement a little with others firmwares but i dont know if my device will handle it good!

let me know if u had any similar experiences

i already download the right software for backups and modifications!

thanks

sneekie,
There is no way to say 100%. Your brothers firmware may work on your player or it may kill it. If you have a backup you have a very good chance of recovering your player but once again it is not 100%. It all depends on if you are prepared to take the risk

Also look on the cd to see if it comes with any .fw files. This should be the full firmware version. However, there is no 100% sure answer that it is for your player as most are generic and put on the cd for the purpose of having it on a cd.

As tadad suggests, it might work, it might not. ALWAYS take a backup in case though.

Bear in mind that if you are willing to take the risk, then also be prepared to put in the hard yards to try to get your player back from a 'dead player' state. There is also a chance that your player may never be back to normal if upgraded with an incompatible firmware as well.

Just telling you the truth so you don't get any surprises.

So if I wanted to change the skin/theme on my player, would it be safer to extract my firmware and edit the images myself instead of loading a new firmware with the menus already updated?

goldenballs, Definitely go for editing your own firmware then you have no chance of killing your player.

Thanks for the advice. When I receive it I will have a go at editing my own firmware. I would cry if I gave myself a 'dead player'!!
