RST999RST,
You can format it in Windows by right clicking and selecting Format FAT.
There are also a number of formating tools ind the Downloads>Tools section you could try.
MP3 Player Utilities also includes a Disk Tool that will format the player for you , set it to do a low level format.

Me again the happy soul with his 4 gb player…

For some unknown reason the windows format didn’t work no idea why. Maybe it’s because it’s been pre formatted in raw format. Anyway I use the standalone tool from this web site thanks for that. At first it came up error unable to format but it did??? In fat

Also I needed to change the drive letter to “p drive” as it wouldn’t show in my computer .
once all that was done and I was able to see the p drive and open just the drive and drag and drop your music folders easy when you know how
Hope this helps you…..

Go to your control panel and click admin tools then computer management

From the left choose disk management; ok make sure your mp4 players is switched on and its showing the USB icon screen.

Can you see you’re your mass media mp4 player drive?
Does it say something like 24mb you may need to scroll down to see the drive,
If yes right click the panel and choose change drive letter an other small window will pop up press the change button to something other then one your already using..

You might want to try the format from here to right click and format

the format tool i use was from this site try looking in the download section...

Wtf is that supposed to mean? I could care less who I "upset", I'm the one who got ripped off. They can choke on a fortune cookie and die for all I give a sh*t.

As far as formatting the player; I had to use the HPUSBFW.exe utility and THEN the format tool that comes on the disk. It seems the hack tries to keep you from formating the memory as to not "expose" the truth.

Most of the time all you would have to do when you first purchase a player is simply turn it on and go to "settings" then scroll on down and choose "memory info" and if it says 4000 mb "claiming to be 4gb" look at the bar underneath that and you'll see its already showing like 51% used already. Well duh! that should tell you right there. No need to even format or be a scientist to figure that out. You can not be at 51% used already and just bought it as they only come with 1 or 2 songs on them and maybe 1 video. If anything it should only show maybe 5% or 6% if that from them few songs and 1 video and then they count the firmware itself so. There you have it!. Just check before formatting or opening it up so you do not as they claim "void the warranty" if formatted or opened.

Does not allow me to format from there. When I choose FAT it says Unable to complete and when I say Fat32 it says volume is too small.

Changing the drive letter also doesn't help.

Very happy with help though. Any more suggestions?

Thanks

i don't know why so complicated u guys did. well, just open up windows explorer and delete everything u don't want from the mp4 drive.
later right click the drive, and go the tools section, click on the error checking and run a scan disc on it. it might help u to recover the lost space as well if it had any. i did that once after i got error format message to my mp3, jpeg and the mtv video. i recover the lost byte and everyhing just work fine after that.

Copycat, I cant get into my MP4 drive. When I double click it to open it up a message says that it needs to be formatted. Do u want to format it now. When clicking yes the HP tool appears and when i press start it says that it was unable to finish format. I have tried, believe me.

Thanks though. Please someone help me.

Guest, Is your player currently working ok? If so go to Settings>Online Mode and make sure it is set to Normal. You could also try using the MP3 Disk Tool which is part of the MP3 Player Utilities suite although if the HP format tool did not work for you I am not sure if the mp3 disk tool will.
