Fraud exposed.... and he didn't like it
I purchased a "4gb" ChiPod Nano on ebay and ended up another victim of the memory hack. I have one of the units with the single 2gb chip inside.
I left the seller negative feedback and he wasn't too pleased. Heres the feedback.... Quote:

http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQ...ingQ5fhongkong I could care less if he refunds my money or not, I was just happy to leave him the feedback I did. I'll probably use my paypal buyer protection to try and get my money back anyways. |
Re: Fraud exposed.... and he didn't like it
Oh boy, he must be extremely afraid of the damage my feedback will cause to his sales. Here's his reply to my demands, lol.....

EDIT: I just did a search of the company on the return address he gave me and found some interesting info. He claims to be a "stupid seller" that buys from mainland China, but the company on the return address "On Chase Limited" is the actual manufaturer of this bogus device. Here is quote from Alibaba.com about On Chase Limited.... Quote:

Looks like he's still selling them on eBay. Looking at this feedback, he's had a lot of positive feedback. I wonder whether buyers haven't completely filled up their player yet to find out whether it's hacked or not. I think I'm going to start up a thread for 'hacked' eBay buyers to hopefully warn others about this sort of thing. Lucky for you it's a 2GB chip as I've heard stories from others that they've had a 128MB chip instead!! Imagine the surprise thinking you bought a 4GB player and only getting 128MB??! |
Hey admin, thats a great idea, I had mentioned about asking you to start a thread for hacked players in one of my posts earlier this week so Im glad you have decided to go ahead with that. It will be a good tool for people to use before they buy a player on ebay - well for those of whom who will discover mympxplayer.com before they buy - which helps them by saving them time, the headache and money ofcourse!

Yeh, that's the difficult bit. Majority of the times, people come to the site AFTER they've bought the player looking for help and explanation as to why the memory has decreased....... by then alittle too late. Hopefully having the thread might help those who found the site before they buy it................ |
Re: Fraud exposed.... and he didn't like it
Yes, I was one of the unlucky ones that discovered this site after the fact.
As far as that sellers other feedback is concerned, I'm sure is has a lot to do with ignorant buyers. I mean that in the nicest way. A lot of people who by them probably have little knowledge of the workings of such a device and when they encounter the memory corruption past 2gb the prolly just say "oh well". Another reason could be that most people bought units advertised as less than 4gb and where actually the size advertised. Here are some more email replies by this seller. He is really squirming. before i buy my mp4, i have do some research as well in the internet, know their features and try to find as many info as possible like capasity, screen size, and format they play. my only comparison is ipod nano. i prefer my mp4 to have big screen size, big capasity at lease 512 MB and as thin as possible. also i wish it can play wmv format. thats my minimum requirement. i end up buying ipod clone with 1G capasity and 18 screen size. my regret after buying it, is it's not TFT screen. the salesman never mention this when selling the product to me. anyway i don't blame him. because that really will confuse me more if he told me that point. he might not even been able to close the sales. haha |
Re: Fraud exposed.... and he didn't like it
I believe we should start a thread of ebayers who have been found to sell hacked players so we can get them down to a list so people interested in buying one would know who not to buy from...
__________ starting with: mediabsolute (he wanted to give me 10$ back for a 94$ player because "one of the chips may be broken" and that was "the difference between a 2GB and a 4GB") |
Re: Fraud exposed.... and he didn't like it
Well I just received mine via the HK trail and I can confirm it will take 4 gb, was the first thing I did load it up.
Sound is good with a descent set of earphones. Manual is a joke thou and the mini cd with drivers is also a waste of space, I would suspect most problems are due to lack of knowledge being unable to format and navigate the menus, but I am very happy with mine. I would be very careful discrediting this particular seller they are shipping lots of units And are making a lot of money upset them at your peril |
For my MP4 which is exactly the same as h8isgr8. i cannot put anything on the device as i am unable to format it. Please help!!!! I would accept if it was 2gb. I just need to know how to start off. Thanks. Please reply

RST999RST,
You can format it in Windows by right clicking and selecting Format FAT. There are also a number of formating tools ind the Downloads>Tools section you could try. MP3 Player Utilities also includes a Disk Tool that will format the player for you , set it to do a low level format. |
Re: Fraud exposed.... and he didn't like it
Me again the happy soul with his 4 gb player…
For some unknown reason the windows format didn’t work no idea why. Maybe it’s because it’s been pre formatted in raw format. Anyway I use the standalone tool from this web site thanks for that. At first it came up error unable to format but it did??? In fat Also I needed to change the drive letter to “p drive” as it wouldn’t show in my computer . once all that was done and I was able to see the p drive and open just the drive and drag and drop your music folders easy when you know how Hope this helps you….. |

also what is the standalone tool from this website. Also how do you rename the drive. Thanks for your help so far! :) |
Re: Fraud exposed.... and he didn't like it
Go to your control panel and click admin tools then computer management
From the left choose disk management; ok make sure your mp4 players is switched on and its showing the USB icon screen. Can you see you’re your mass media mp4 player drive? Does it say something like 24mb you may need to scroll down to see the drive, If yes right click the panel and choose change drive letter an other small window will pop up press the change button to something other then one your already using.. You might want to try the format from here to right click and format the format tool i use was from this site try looking in the download section... |

As far as formatting the player; I had to use the HPUSBFW.exe utility and THEN the format tool that comes on the disk. It seems the hack tries to keep you from formating the memory as to not "expose" the truth. |
Re: Fraud exposed.... and he didn't like it
Most of the time all you would have to do when you first purchase a player is simply turn it on and go to "settings" then scroll on down and choose "memory info" and if it says 4000 mb "claiming to be 4gb" look at the bar underneath that and you'll see its already showing like 51% used already. Well duh! that should tell you right there. No need to even format or be a scientist to figure that out. You can not be at 51% used already and just bought it as they only come with 1 or 2 songs on them and maybe 1 video. If anything it should only show maybe 5% or 6% if that from them few songs and 1 video and then they count the firmware itself so. There you have it!. Just check before formatting or opening it up so you do not as they claim "void the warranty" if formatted or opened.

Does not allow me to format from there. When I choose FAT it says Unable to complete and when I say Fat32 it says volume is too small.
Changing the drive letter also doesn't help. Very happy with help though. Any more suggestions? Thanks |
i don't know why so complicated u guys did. well, just open up windows explorer and delete everything u don't want from the mp4 drive.
later right click the drive, and go the tools section, click on the error checking and run a scan disc on it. it might help u to recover the lost space as well if it had any. i did that once after i got error format message to my mp3, jpeg and the mtv video. i recover the lost byte and everyhing just work fine after that. |
Copycat, I cant get into my MP4 drive. When I double click it to open it up a message says that it needs to be formatted. Do u want to format it now. When clicking yes the HP tool appears and when i press start it says that it was unable to finish format. I have tried, believe me.
Thanks though. Please someone help me. |
Guest, Is your player currently working ok? If so go to Settings>Online Mode and make sure it is set to Normal. You could also try using the MP3 Disk Tool which is part of the MP3 Player Utilities suite although if the HP format tool did not work for you I am not sure if the mp3 disk tool will.

Some hacks are actually good enough to still display the hacked size even after a Windows Explorer format. That's why you need to use other tools, esp the "Disk Format Tool" which comes with the MP3 Player Utilities. |
