I think it's when players are being advertised with 4GB and 8GB of storage and selling for USD$50.00 - that's when the 'hacked players' come into play.

After some researching you'll find that it's almost impossible to find 8GB flash memory available at that price, yet alone part of an MP3 player too.

I think if you go with the 1GB or 2GB, you'll get 'farily' safe (hence the termn "fairly"). It all depends really...... The Nano fakes are being mentioned because right now, they're a really hot and new item and it seems everyone is getting them.

The trouble isn't with the players and in some cases not even the manufacturers, its with the people selling them.

Rule of thumb if your going to get a nano clone, don't buy if they say it has more than 2GB of memory, regardless of what they say; 99.99% of '4GB' - '8GB' are hacks.

Don't buy off eBay, looks like the guys selling these cheap on eBay (especially the sellers from Hong Kong) are the main source of these bad players.

Apart from that, most of the players are quite trouble free and work fine, nearly everyone that i know that has bought one of these off me have been happy with their purchase.

Just be a smart buyer and you'll end up with a good player.
