Default modify battery

Has anyone modified battery setting? I was curious if you could get more battery life out of player by setting the battery from 3.2 to 1.5.

Further to the OP, has anyone tried replacing the battery with an Ipod Nano one? They are (I think) 550maH, 3.7v L-Ion vs the mpx nano clone's 250 or so. They sell on ebay for around US$15 or AU$20 and from comparing pictures of the player internals I'm pretty sure they'd fit.
I'll be buying one shortly anyway - will let you know how it goes.

millrat1030,
I had read this and tried it on 2 players and found no difference to battery time between the 3.7 and 1.5 setting.

Guest, the 550maH Nano battery is different dimensions to those around the 250maH mark so if your battery space is tight it may not fit. The nano battery also has a 3 wire attachment and although you could always leave one wire redundant it may effect the way the battery behaves.

Thanks Tadad1, but darn it. I think I'll still buy one and see if I can make it fit then! I imagine success would result in around 14 hours of mp3 playback vs my current 6-7 using the 250mah. Which would be nice.

Do not use the Nano batteries unless you want to do some extra work.
here is why..
The Chipods are using an on-battery regulator. It's teenie-weenie board with a couple chips and a couple resistors.
If you carefully open the battery package you will see that board directly soldered to the battery tabs.
For my knowledge the nano batteries doesn't have that little board on them, they use a regulator circuit on the main board instead.
In an event that it has the on-battery regulator, then it uses the third wire for charge sense. In any case don't just pop it in and see.Make sure you have you have the wiring right otherwise you will kill the regulator and the battery. As for the player you pretty much safe as it has on board diodes and some other things to prevent anykinds of battery overload problems.
But the Lithium polimer batteries are very easy to kill by overcharging or reverse wiring.
You could check just to be sure since I don't have an Ipod nano myself.
