raz, black (darkle on some playewrs) is a power saving time setting in seconds for your LCD to turn off. On my nano clone I have both darkle and black when I set one the other automatically sets the same but I still have to enter the other and accept the setting by pressing play for the settting to work.

darkle supposed to set the EL backlight to halfpower and black is the EL shutdown for powersave.
unfortunately most of the firmwares that implements these aren't functioning or just partially since it is tied to the clock signal of the unit.
meaning you have to set it every time you shut off the power switch.
but not in every case. some of the units does save the settings so you won't have to set yer clock.

We seem to get asked that alot so here is a basic guide for the lcd functions!.

LCD Functions:

Brightness: Set's the brightness by pressing the "Forward" or "Rewind" button. Press "Mode" button to confirm.

Black or Darkle: (Saves Energy) Set's the time that the display turns off automatically. With this function you save energy and it allows you to increase your playing time. Set the time between 5 to 30 seconds by pressing the "Forward" or "Rewind" button.
Press "Mode" button to confirm. If you want to turn off this function then set the time to "0".

Power Off Functions:

Off Time: Enters the idle time between 0 to 60 seconds for the player to be turned off automatically by pressing the "Forward" or "Rewind" button. Press "Mode" button to confirm. If you want to turn off this function then set the time to "0".

Sleep Time: Enters the playtime from 0 to 120 minutes for the Player to be turned off automatically by pressing the "Forward" or "Rewind" button. Press "Mode" button to confirm. If you want to turn off this function then set the time to "0".

The Language, Memory and F/W Functions are basically self explanatory:

Language: Chooses the language for your player.

Memory: Tells you the used space of your Flash Memory Chip.

Firmware or F/W Version: Shows you the File Name of the actual Firmware.
