Why changing your firmware??
Hi guy. Look, almost everything that is theme related about mpx players revolves around firmware. I know by now that changing the wrong firmware to your plater can be fatal, but I dont seem to get why would someone want to change the firmware in the firstplace? Do you get something new with it? I dont think so. Does it changes how your music and video players display the info or what? Please explain

Zephyron,
I think it is just human nature. Most like me want to do it because they can or there is something about their firmware they do not like , I have seen some firmware that is just butt ugly and almost impossible to customize. In most cases there is nothing to be gained from another firmware, maybe a different layout but it is a big risk to take when you can generally customize your own. Some have found that 3.5.37 is slightly faster than 3.5.35, if you are real lucky you might gain a new game. Others want to try to get file browsing. Provided you have a backup of your firmware you have a pretty good chance of recovering from a bad flash but sadly most try before backing up. Good marketing ploy by the Chinese though I bet there are a lot of people who have killed their players and bought a new one. |
Re: Why changing your firmware??
Hmmm. Ok tadad1. So what you say it's that it IS possible to gain some new features for your mpx player (like file browsing). But can you answer my previous question: is it posible to change your music and video players? I ask you this becouse I've noticed that some of the skins for the music player in the "Theme" section of this site have a very diffrent layout than mine, which means that i cannot use them. And what do you mean by "I have seen some firmware that is just butt ugly and almost impossible to customize."? How can a firmware be but ugly and also I tought that every fw can be customised usidg s1res. I know that these are kinda noob-like question, but I simply am curious about the possibilites of changing one's firmware.
P.S. If it IS possible to gain file-browsing feature by changing your firmware can u please tell me which fw I need? Thanks a lot man. |
Zephyron,
Upgrading your firmware is always risky, there are so many different versions of firmware now that version numbers like 3.5.35 or 3.5.37 are meaningless as there can be 100's of variations. This makes it near on impossible to know if a particular firmware is going to be compatible with your player or not. I have personally tested 100's of firmware and I have never gained any new features by upgrading in fact in one case I loaded a firmware that had less features than the original. Others have reported that they have gone from having one game to having 3 or 4 by changing firmware or gained telbook or ebook features that their original did not have and I have heard of one or two who gained file browsing. I would guess that 75% of firmware I have tried will leave my player with a black screen that is easily recovered with reloading the original. 15% will kill the player completely and require a dead player recovery. 5% will not load at all and the remaining 5% will load succesfully. I use 3 different players for testing and in each case I have always returned to the original firmware because there have been no worthwhile benefits. In answer to your question is it possible to change the music and video interface to make it more compatible with some of the themes, no at least not withourt changing firmware. Some of the skins can be edited to suit your firmware using Photoshop or other image editing software. Regarding Butt Ugly firmware, most firmware is a little cheesey with flower themes etc and most people are able to change them using s1res and a downloaded theme or by creating their own or adapting another. The process can be quite easy and rewarding but may take a little time to edit or load all the images. Editing your own firmware is quite safe trying to load someone elses themed firmware is risky as mentioned above. I have however seen 1 or 2 firmware that have terrible themes with love heart menu's, poor quality images and terrible colour schemes. Some can be very hard to customize because of their image layout. For example in most themes the menu's are made up of one or multiple images to make up each menu entry and the images change completely for each menu item. These are easy to theme and you can almost change the appearance completely from a single animated menu icon to an iPod scrolling menu style. Some may need a little creative editing and text string removal but can be worked around. Others have a static background image that does not change from menu to menu only the icon image will change, with themes such as these you can change the images but not the layout so theming is very limited. Regarding file browsing there are a couple of firmware in the Download\Firmware section that have file browsing but as mentioned it is impossible to say if they would work with your player they did not work on mine. If you are prepared to take the risk and try them be sure you have a backup of your original firmware, but be aware that there are a lot of players out there that have not been able to be recovered, I have one. A bit long winded but I hope this helps. :) |
Re: Why changing your firmware??
Thanks you tadad, for your advices and sorry that i made you type so much text :). You have been a big help. I think I'll just stick to my good-oll firmware and use the iPod theme which I modified It to fit my 1.8 screen.
Again, thanks a lot man!!! |
Zephyron
If you've managed to modify the iPod theme for your player with the 1.8" screen, can you share it and upload it to the site? It might be helpful for others who also have the same player as you. The more we share, the more we can all get :). Look forward to seeing it. |
what is this online mode -> MULTI DRIVE ??!?!?
|
mobidik, If you open MP2 Player Disk Tool you will see a tab marked "Partition Encrypt" What this does is allow you to partition off part of your players memory to create a secure storage space that can only be accessed by password. The online mode settings work as follows : Normal = only the normal partition is visible in explorer. Multi Drive = Both partitions are visible as separate drives. Encrypted Only = only the encrypted drive is visible.

Re: Why changing your firmware??
No problem Tadad1 dude. I'll upload it rght away. You will notice that I took some parts of couple of themes which i think are THE besT FRIGGIN THEmeS ever, and combined them into one iPod theme. I justa wanna point out that I DO NOT take the entire credit for this theme becouse I only modified it to a sertain level.
