It is not possible to identify your player just by looking at it. There could be 100 manufacturers all making this type of player and they just buy the parts and assemble them. Although they may all use the same casing they can use different board types, chips, LCD screens etc and firmware.

Upgrading your firmware will not give you any new features and you stand a good chance of killing your player with a bad upgrade.
