Default Linux on our mpxplayers, is it possible?

I've read on the net that someone has put a GNU/Linux operating system on the iP*d (including the Nano). Does anyone know if it is possible to installa some sort of linux on our iP*d Nano clones?

i really doubt that these player can run linux, just because they are too simple of devices, i can see the iPod being able to be modded to run linux (although its the first time i've heard about it).

[img=right:d1a1797316]http://bushi.net.nz/tmp/CIMG0288.JPG[/img:d1a1797316]iPodLinux is at http://www.ipodlinux.org/ if you want to take a look. But it doesn't seem to run on your chiPod - it's iPod specific (so far).

I have an chiPod Nano clone just bought off TradeMe (shown on right). I wouldn't be surprised if this thing is already running Linux - why not? If so ... I'd *so* love to be able to mess about with the user interface, it's pretty hairy.

Can anyone tell me what chip is in this puppy? It seems pretty common so far

"MP4 Player" says the box. 1GB with more features than I need, and a UI that doesn't quite make sense (though it makes MORE sense than the instruction manual, haha)

Perhaps they won't run Linux, but there is an open source project to get a free firmware running on these players. Check out http://s1mp3.org for details.

xurizaemon,

The easiest and quickest way to determine what chipset it's running is by looking at the sample video file.

If it plays .amv then it's an ACTIONS board ("Action Motion Video" = .amv). If it's .SMV then it's Sigmatel. Looking at your interface, I would say it's an ACTIONS board.

You can modify these quite easily. Have a look at the Knowledge Base section, or the sticky in the "Mods / Themes" section of this forum as well.
