What is the BEST Chipset for ChiPOD Nano/MPx??

Alot of people selling are including the chipset used and RAM mfg.

So, which chipset is the the BEST, for performance and mod options?

Active Soultions, Sigmatel, etc...

PRAXXUS, Action chipsets are the most common and have the most compatible apps and use the most customizable firmware. I do not think there is a noticable difference in performance between chips.
AMV video format gives much better compression than MTV, SMV, PTM which are oftern used on other chipsets.

There are 2 chiPODs (1.8" TFT) advertised on ebay, both by the same seller.

He clearly states that in one auction that it uses the SIGMATEL 3520 chipset. It seems that this unit is very hot as there are many bidders.

However on another auction he states that the unit uses Active Solutions chipset, which has no bidders and is more expensive. Am I missing something here, that everybody else knows?

PRAXXUS,
I would say the second one is actually an Actions Solutions chipset.
The Sigmatel chipset one has a few contradictions as if it is Sigmatel it will not run AMV video format as it states but SMV format which has no compression and results in huge file size. So either it is not a Sigmatel chip or it does not use AMV. "Holds 150 Videos", they must be nano seconds long. I like the way he quotes each chip as "guarantees the best sound" in fact he has just used the same blurb for both players.
To be honest most of these sellers have no idea about their products specifications and just cut and paste information that sounds good.
He also mentions brightness and contrast settings, one observation I have, out of 6 players I have used 2 have superior screen quality and strangly they have no a brightness setting.

Out of curiosity, what are your 6 units (with brief specs/comments), and which are the 2 with the best screen. How would you rate them in descending order.

I know you have posted reviews on some models, including pics...but nobody has reviewed a crappy unit.

I think everybody would like to know from a pro...it would help us out alot.

PRAXXUS,

These are the 2 with quality screens
http://www.mympxplayer.org/pafiledb/images/screenshots/2GB-1.8-TFT.jpg'
http://www.mympxplayer.org/new-player-review-vt914.html

The one I reviewed is still the top of my list for quality and performance, the only thing I have done to it is replace the 230 mAh battery with a 400 mAh one that increased play time from 8 to 11 hours.

Unfortunatly as the same cases are used by many different manufacturers players can look the same on the outside and have totally different internals, so reviews and photos are not very helpful. Even buying the same player from the same seller does not mean you will get the same specs.

The biggest problem with chiPods is there is no way of telling what quality the components will be unlike iPod, Meizu and other brand name players that are made to exacting specifications and build standards but cost 2 sometimes 3 times more.

My suggestion is be a bit selective, and pay a bit more. Some of the new players emerging have 2.0 inch screens and use replaceable mobile phone batteries.
Generally you will find that manufacturers who are prepared to invest in new casing designs, upgrades to screen size, newer chipset (some of the newer ones use Action CTW500 and Rockchips) batteries etc are going to turn out a better quality product than the guy who is buying the cheapest mass produced components he can get and throwing together nano clones in his garage.

Here is an example off a local auction site,

http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/2...478fullem6.jpg
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/6...481fullnb8.jpg

You will notice the photos are not retouched, you are seeing the real screen image, a poor quality screen will not photograph this well in these light conditions. Firmware design is tastefull, 2.0 inch 260K LCD, will use a Nokia phone battery. Time money and effort have been put into producing this player it will most likely last longer and perform better and it is only $20 - $30 more expensive than a nano clone.

Thats my 2 cents.

ok, you gotta stop throwing these little bones... :)

Now, I gotta know where you can find an MP4 player with replaceable cell batteries. I googled everywhere and can't find anything like the attached photo.

UPDATE: I did find that unit you attached in your earlier post (changeable battery), but I can't find anybody selling them, except for suppliers. Any ideas where I might find that unit?

PRAXXUS, , I just went to ebay.com and did a search for "MP4 Player Battery" and got 34 hits for similar players.
