4 GB Player ... or not ? - what d'ya reckon guys ?
Hi Guys,
Just read this guy's description- see the red section in his ad that requests you NOT to format the player as it will destroy files needed to run the machine ... ( yeah right ! ) Just sent him a question asking if its hacked or not and pointed out that you CAN format it using the MP3 Utility tools. Am I being harsh - or is he another con man ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MakeTrack=true Cheers Si |
Re: 4 GB Player ... or not ? - what d'ya reckon guys ?
 seems like now the scammers are starting to get aware of the hacked memory being able to be removed by formatting.

Just curious but can't this issue be reported to eBAY fraud department? This is definitely a criminal offense and his account at eBAY should be suspended or terminated.
Has anybody ever contacted eBAY Fraud Department for similar issues? |
Simonski,
No way are you being harsh, the no format warning is a dead give away. There is no conceivable reason why you should not be able to format the player. I say bash em'.... I quite often visit the web sites of name brand chipod manufacturers in China Like Ainol, Newman, Unibit and Degen, these are big companies that spend big money on product reseach and developement and not one of them produces a player over 2GB, so how does the crappy, no name manufacturer make 4GB and 8GB players. He doesn't. It is not until you get to the likes of Apple, Meizu, Sandisk etc that you start seeing players of this capacity at 2 to 3 times the price of chipods. Cheers Si, I needed a little vent :) |
Re: 4 GB Player ... or not ? - what d'ya reckon guys ?
Was checking up on ebay's policies, there was this Seller's Policy on misleading title/description: http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/polici...ng-titles.html
And there is a Report link right at the bottom. I would suggest those who got scammed by such sellers to also report these sellers using this Report link. It might not be very effective, but once the number of complains go up, the seller might face eBay account suspension. |
Re: 4 GB Player ... or not ? - what d'ya reckon guys ?
I've just reported three of his supposed 4gb players.
Read thru his feedback, and has sold a few of these, and been left positive feedback - obviously the buyers havent checked the capacity and taken his instruction NOT to format the player :( If he replies to my question, I will post it here next week. I still dont think Ebay are that bothered, as perhaps too difficult for them to prove they are hacked players, and as long as they are getting their cut - sure they are happy enough. You could spend all day reporting these, and even if removed, they will open up a new id, and the whole process begins again ...... I just wish more people knew about this site so they do could a bit of research before being scammed by one of these HK sellers :) Cheers Si |

Re: 4 GB Player ... or not ? - what d'ya reckon guys ?
My sons just bought a 4gb chipod of ebay from a HK seller,, had a few probs at first with some corrupt files, but after formatting it, it works just fine (pc tells me it has 4gb also) I even tried loading a few movies with about 3.5gb size they loaded and played O.K.
Can this still be a hacked player or have they started producing 4gb players????? |
i don't know, i haven't got any news from my suppliers of a 4gb model and they would have told me if it were out, they tell all 4gbs are fakes.

Bradders,
The hack can be difficult to remove and will sometimes survive a fat32 format. The only way to be 100% sure is to pop the back off the player and check the chip serial number. The sizes and serials of Hynix and Samsung chips are posted HERE A double format with the MP3 Player Disk Tool will generally clean it up as well. You need to go to the Partition Encrypt tab and move the slider all the way right and apply to format, then move it back all the way left and format again. |
