PMP MP4 player - chinese noname
Hello,
i accidently bought a so called "mp4-player" @ ebay, it was cheap though (30 euro bucks included shipping). Im curious if anybody knows sth. about this player since it seems like its a no-name product. here are some specs (as printed on the package): - 2,5" tft screen (260k colors) - support mp4 / vcd of asf format - mic & line recording - JPEG viewer - Video-out / in / TV program recording - calendar, games, timer - sd-card slot - li-battery - 128mb flash (for this one, i read somewhere that 256/512 versions are available too) its delivered with an usb cabel, av-cabel (3 wires - video/2xaudio (scart)), earphones, software (video-conversation / usb-drive driver). ebay-link for the player: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=160032872120 it seems like the conversation software uses ffmpeg at least the output in the "status window" looks like that - codecs: divx 5 / adpcm_ima. the firmware is missing some features though, it only plays asf video files, no mp3 sound in videos (but plays audio only mp3 files) and its not possible to adjust screen brightness and contrast. so if somebody knows of a better firmware for the player let me know :) btw, what do you think what hardware this (or these players in general are) is based on (some ARM + ASIC)? i guess ill put a photo of the player online soon and the video file found on the player |
NewKID, PMP players run a completely different system than the standard chipod and looking at the link you posted your player has a Sunplus chipset. It is highly advised that you do not attempt to update your firmware as these players are easily killed and there is no way of recovering them as they have to be factory flashed with firware.
You are best to just enjoy your player as it is and not tamper with it at all. You may be able to find some other ASF converters though as you should be getting sound. Try installing K-Lite Mega Codec Pack to your PC. |

Hi tadad1,
thanks for your quick answer. i think youre right, its a sunplus device similar to these: http://www.chizon.com/index.htm but without a camera. i guess its not urgent to update the firmware. ill test the enjoyability of the player today during my 2-3h train travel. if its not so joyful ill do sth else with the player. |
