the next new firmware version
Does anyone know where do new firmware versions come from?
I manage to find a lot of firmware files that users dump from their device and share with other people but who is programming and releasing these new firmware? I just bought an mp3 player and it had firmware version 3.5.37 on it but without the file browing feature. I then managed to merge with another 3.5.37 version and now I have also the file browsing... My question is therefore, why there are so many 3.5.37 firmware around if they are basically different? I like this device a lot but I hope that a better (faster!) firmware would appear soon... current version is exasperating... |
ste72,
There are hundreds of manufacturers of these players and they all build their players to different specifications and designs generally based on the cheapest parts they can get. They then alter the firmware suit the players components (screen type, chipsets, mainboard etc...) Components can change from batch to batch as cheaper parts are found or new suppliers and so the firmware changes again. The version numbering system is almost pointless now. |
Re: the next new firmware version
ok, thank you!

ste72,
As tadad mentioned above, different players also have different button configurations, so the firmware needs to be altered alittle. Generally the MP4 manufacturer pays alittle extra to the board manufacturer to have it modified to suit the player. Also, you have managed to merged your existing firmware with another firmware that has file browsing and how you player has file browsing ability? Did you loose anything? After the merge, everything in your player works fully? |
Hi!
i followed the post 'Instructions on how to update your firmware to 3.5.37' on http://forum.s1mp3.org/viewtopic.php...er=asc&start=0 I got the file browing feature and one extra game called winmine. The only drowback is that the down button doesn't work in two games (winmine and color beard) but i don't care because i use it only for playing music. bye! |
