Default Noob Questions on clone MP3Mp4

Please bear with me as I have a few questions.

Like most, I stumbled onto this site AFTER I purchased a 2Gb MP3/Mp4 clone player on eBay. The seller had/has very positive feedback with no negatives for product quality. Anyway, my model is identified ONLY by a V with a circle around it (above the menu button) and a model ID of VL-557. Has anyone encountered any hacked memory with this model?

The player works fine (so far). I have only added about 500MB and have tested the video (AMV), music, photos, etc. What is the easiest way to test the true capacity? This is a gift and am timid to format prior to giving. Should I just try to put 1.85G to see if it can handle the capacity?

Also, it has a 1.5" screen. Converting to AMV in 128x96 seems awful small for the screen, 128x128 tends to extend slightly over the right margin. Any happy medium or any way of cropping the 128x128 to fit?

Finally, is there any way to change the menu background to say a jpeg?

Any and all help on this is greatly appreciated.

First of all.. A 2Gig player is possible within the memory limitations on todays players, so you 'MAY' be ok.
Load up as much as you can.. perhaps a few AMV movies.. Check how they play at 750mb, 1Gig, 1.5gig and just under 2 gig. If you can put 2 gigs on your player then you have a 2 gig player! If you get to a certain point and then all the files have a format error then you have the limit and you need to decide on your next step.
I find that 128X128 works fine... however if you are converting widescreen movies or TV progs then you do only get a partial screen shot. I tend to stick with 'normal' tv sizes and apart from little bits missing I can live with the results... You are reducing 'standard' images to a small version and certain loss is inevitable.
As for the Jpegs,,, there are loads of downloads etc here, and lots of 'How to' threads.
Hope this helps..

Dave

Thanks for the info Dave. Very helpful. I just want to check this out before I a) give this as a gift and b) leave feedback on eBay.

Cheers

Thanks for the comforting insight, but I like how you put that, "most 2 gb are not hacked."

ismethere, To check if the memory is false you can try the method outlined here: http://www.mympxplayer.org/feedback-...ers-vt2828.htm

Or you could backup all the files on the player by copying them to your PC and use "lattesurf's" method to reset the partition table. If the player is hacked it will remove the hack and the player will show it's real size.
http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html

Then you can copy all the files back to your layer.

Always glad to help ismethere... Lorne, I DID say that he should be OK with 2Gig,, and being 'skeptical' comes with the territory when buying these things.. A Genuine 2gig is brilliant,, but a bogus/hacked one is usually about 256k of useless space that should be inserted into the suppliers orrifice 'where the sun dont shine'! Its nice to know that at least one person is checking out the validity of a christmas present before handing over what could be a small package of crap.
