brand new mp4 player from China.

Hello, I am new to this forum and I know nothing of these ipod things! My nephew gave me a new Ipod Nano mp4 player he brought back from China just this month. It says apple ipod nano but I know its not! I have a few pics of it if any one could help me out with this thing. I also have the firmware listed as .... LSD_5101_10 SDK:v35.37 date 09/10/2006. Thanks to anyone who can help me!!!!

Without a few more details its very hard to know what your problem is... Does it load up MP3s/MP4s ok? Does it play ok? How much memory does it have and how much can you use? IS there a problem with this or are you just concerned that it isn't a 'genuine' Ipod nano?
If it does what a nano does, if you can use it for what you want it for then does it really matter that it 'may' be a clone?
IF its a bogus one, and displays incorrect storage or claims that files are wrong format then the problem will be with the supplier and I doubt that anything can be done at this stage to rectify the problems... BUT it may be possible to reformat to the 'real' storage capacity and use it.
Genuine Ipods use a hard drive system whilst bogus ones use a memory chip (simply put) and the difference is shown in the prices you pay.
If it works,, then why worry?

Well the one problem I have found is that when it loads up songs, it will play them for about 5 seconds and then seconds and then stop. When I plug into my computer it automatically sincs with my computer and will load my library. My library consists of mainly all wma. Once I try to play a song though it does what I described before. Also it says that it is the wrong format for some songs. I have never messed with an ipod before so i guess you can call me an ipod virgin! lol. this is my first one. My memory I am not sure how to check. It does have alot of features like photo, amv, record, voice, games, telephone, music, ande-book. I could really use some info on how to set this thing up ! :!:

Mmmm.. It does sound like an Ipod clone,, but thats not necessarily a bad thing..
These players prefer to play MP3 tunes,, so if any tune is not in either MP3, WMA or AAC (I think) it will not play them.. so you need to see what format ALL your tunes are in. If you have the time and ability I would change them all to MP3.. there are plenty of progs about.
Genuine players will usually connect to Itunes when connected to a PC.. if yours is different then you should play with it a bit to get it to just upload the songs you choose.. You should also make sure that you haven't selected a 'Play intro' or 'taster' instruction on the player or software which will just play the first 10 seconds of a tune before going to the next. Have you tried to press 'play' whilst it is playing the first few seconds?? this may solve the problem until you find the instruction and change it.

If the player shows up on your 'My computer' page as a Drive, then right click on the icon and select 'properties'.. this will let you know how much storage you have and how much is used. You will also be able to add or remove tunes, photos and videos from the player without the need to connect to any other software..
As it will pay AMV format (a video format) it suggests that it is using the chinese software not Itunes as this would normaly require a different format.. so it begins to look like a Ipod clone and not a genuine one,, But its not a problem if it has genuine memory.. What memory is it supposed to have?? does the box or booklet say 1Gig or 2Gig or 4Gig etc?

It is looking like a clone,,, and the error messages about wrong format rings a few alarm bells.. but once again I need to know what it is supposed to be before anything can be suggested... Look again and try to see what size it is,, and let me know what the software it connects to is called if you can.. You could also check the photos on this site to see if yours looks like one of these and then let us know. If its a wrong 'un there are plenty of solutions to get it working ok.

Hey thanks for the info so far. I have the specs here.it says it is a 1 gb. it has 1,035 gb used and 951 free, it syas it has 1.96 gb capacity. I do not have any music on it now though just some stupid games that came with it. can i safely remove those games and create more space? My nephew said he had to have the seller in china put it in English not the chinese that it came in. I am not sure what software or how to find what it connects to!My nephew did bring me over a disc to use today to put in my computer for the ipod. It originally only had the earplugs charger adapter and the usb canle, no software but now I got some so I will let ya know what it is when I can figure it out. Thanks a lot.

geminii71 , generally these nano-clones do not need any software to sync with your computer. It works the same as a USB thumbdrive. Just copy and paste music/video files into the player's drive will do.

The only software you'll need is the AMV Tools, available in the downloads section. That's to convert the video files into .AMV format.

Regarding the games, you can't remove them to increase the space, as they are part of the firmware.

However, i'll suggest a complete player format if you haven't done so yet. As majority of players comes with hacked memory. The guide to it is Here.

geminii71 , to backup your firmware, follow the step-by-step guide Here.

And for formatting of your player, follow the guide Here.

If you had done all these guides but still experiencing problems, what error messages or problems are you facing?
