My 4GB+ MP4 Guide on EBAY

Well, I got tired of waiting for others to do this, so I finally wrote a more complete report on the 4GB problem on eBay. I wonder how long before they pull it? They say you can write "inappropriate remarks" but dont define what that is, which leaves them plenty of leeway. Of course, I HAD to list this and the other mp4 site, although they say you cant put outside links on your guide.....

Re: My 4GB+ MP4 Guide on EBAY

Damn, it looks like the powers that be pulled my guide already!
I can't find the guide when I do a search for it, and when I log in,
it says I have 0 guides to my name!
What are they doing, monitoring these things every minute?

I want this to stay up so people out there buying 4GB+ players know the score, so any suggestions, let me know! (Maybe even if I take out the link to mympxplayer.org and s1mp3.org they'll still not allow my guide, because of the truth of what it says against eBay!)

I only put it up a few hours ago, and my guide was viewed 49 times already, and 5 out 5 people found it helpful! Maybe that's what's making eBay nervous...

Re: My 4GB+ MP4 Guide on EBAY

I spoke a little too soon... I read some more about their guide policy, and it said that new guides aren't available for searching until 24 hours, so that may be why I was unable to find it in a search, and that MyeBay page listed me as having 0 guides.....

Still, I tried to make it harder for them to remove the guide, by removing all direct links to mympxplayer.org and the s1mp3.org forum. I went around this by saying "do a web search for the mympxplayer site". I hope that people will be competent enough to find these 2 sites on Google anyhow, with the info I provided! (I noticed that some people have guides that mention "mympxplayer(dot)org", and they have gotten away with that....

By the way, I forgot to credit the competent, knowledgable people on this forum, from which I learned many things that I directly included in my "THE OFFICIAL 4GB+ MP4 PLAYER SCANDAL ON eBAY FAQ". Despite taking over 2 hours to write, I cobbled it together pretty quickly, so if anyone finds I was incorrect in any of my statements, feel free to let me know.

Genius!!!

A friend of mine bought a 4GB and Windows cracked it when she tried to dump more than 1GB on it. After hearing this I was wary and bought a 2GB + SD card one and it seems to be ok.

why not a lawyer to defend us?
off course each country as it own laws, and ways to resolve things...but since ebay/paypal are not really interested to resolve this situation we need a person, that knows the law to help us, an expert in these international issues.

if we get 100 people, and each pay 5 US dollar, we get 500 US dollars to hire a lawyer...

Wow, really psyched to hear that the guide I wrote 1 day ago has already helped to prevent someone from getting ripped off! I guess it was worth the time spent. Also psyched to see that I alreday now have "Top 5000 Guide Reviewer" next to my userID", and 14 out of 14 already found it helpful! Except ironically, it still says in my ebay page that I wrote 0 guides, and I can't find it in a search! I guess it hasn't registered yet. I wrote a lot of shit against ebay, even went after Meg Whitman the CEO, so I hope they're not going to get Draconian on my ass and use that as an excuse to pull my guide. There's nothing specifically in the rules that say "You can't say anything bad about eBay the company or its management", but since they put "inappropriate remarks", they could use that to mean anything!

Nice thought, but many lawyers charge more than half that just to sit down with you and tell you how much they're going to charge. So I can't imagine any lawyer taking on a large case like this for 5 small; an international lawyer yet. I think the US government is the one to sic on eBay. They're already hounding eBay with issues that may be related to customer protection. I am not in the US and don't know what the proper US agencies are to contact to register complaints against eBay for not doing anything about the 4GB MP4 sellers. Perhaps someone else here does and can post them. With enough pressure from an outside source like the government (or the press), eBay will have no choice but to f**ing do something about this, or face both criminal charges and reduced customer confidence in ebay. Trust me, anything that will hurt ebay's bottom line, they will respond to! They first have to be convinced their bottom line is hurting. Press reports on the 4GB scandal would certainly help in that area.

princessanne1026 19th Dec 2006 1:09 pm

Excellent job, michiganjfrog! That review is as thorough as it gets. Are you allowed to blast sellers on there though, because that would be good too.

Oh, and you complained a couple of times about eBay not allowing users to see just the negative feedback. Well, eBay doesn't, but there's this site www.toolhaus.org that I discovered that will - all you have to do is type in the username of the person you want to see and they'll show you all the neutral and negative feedback they've received. Hope I've been helpful

princessanne1026 19th Dec 2006 1:14 pm

Oh yeah 1 more thing: I strongly encourage everyone on this forum who's an eBay member to vote michiganjfrog's guide helpful, because the more votes it gets, the closer it gets to the top in searches, the more people are likely to see it, and less people will fall prey to scams

fablept 19th Dec 2006 1:17 pm

Re: My 4GB+ MP4 Guide on EBAY

how many people it suffered by this scam? an estimate...

This is not only on Ebay, also in a portuguese auction site there are many 4GB MP4....i posted some messages warning about the issue, using links to this forum (here is very well explained)...people was starting to have doubts, but i got banned from the site......I send mails to the Site auction to explain the scam, no answer i got.

daveislander 20th Dec 2006 3:33 am

Very well done!! I have added my 'useful' vote on ebay. Lets hope that folk read this before buying and that Ebay dont take exception to your comments and 'lose' the page.
Perhaps the guide should be mentioned on Ebay when you bid on or buy a 4gig player.
Well,,, we can dream can't we?
Dave

Re: My 4GB+ MP4 Guide on EBAY

daveislander: Thanks for voting "useful" for my guide! And thanks for the idea. When it comes time for me to give elllieshang feedback, (and the seller I bought my Nano case from, and the seller I bought my 2.5mm adapter from), I will mention my guide in there for all feedbacks! I was thinking of mentioning mymxplayer.org, but sorry, can't have room for both! (And the guide mentions this site anyway!)

princessanne1026: Thanks for the critique. Believe me, I wanted to blast individual sellers. I wanted to put an entire blacklist in my guide. I didn't think I could get away with it. I was going to just mention "queenofglitter" as someone who gives retaliatory feedback, but after not seeing my guide in my own myEbay page, I decided to edit it out, to give eBay a harder time of finding reasons to pull my guide. I noticed at least one other mp4 guide reviewer "naming names" of bad sellers. His guide is still up, but I as I am not sure and just starting out, I didn't want to risk it! I put enough stuff about eBay itself to make 'em real nervous about my guide, so I didn't want to push it...

I didn't know that the more votes a guide gets, the closer it gets to the top in searches. So EVERYONE VOTE MY GUIDE USEFUL, EH! Like you say, the more people that see it, the faster this scam will be busted. And thanks for voting, I've now already got 21 helpful out of 21 votes, and am the top 3,733rd guide reviewer! Still can't see my guide on my ebay page or do a search for it though!

Thanks for the tip about toolhaus.org, I had NO idea you could do that on another site!

fablept: Geez, the 4GB scam is a mass conspiracy to defraud the public! If the Portugese auction site is refusing to let users warn other users about the scam, makes you wonder if eBay will do the same, in response to my guide? We'll see!

If they pull it like the Portugese site did yours, I'll force them to tell me exactly why. If they say it contravenes the regs, I'll change it just enough so they can't say that.

It seems that you CAN talk sh*t about eBay and sellers in your guide and not get it pulled! This guy basically rants the entire way through his "guide". It's not really a "guide" at all, its just a rant against eBay for not protecting him and others against a single bad seller!:

That is a very useful guide.
I voted it helpful.
Let's hope more potential buyers are helped out by it.

Thanks for taking the time to write a complete guide. (I'm still fighting with 'e-britain' about my '4GB' player.)

I voted it 'Helpful', because it certainly is!

2 notes: The bottom looks cut off (character limit?), and you may wish to keep the text saved somewhere, in case it does get pulled.

Thanks for taking the time to read and vote for it! And thanks for letting me know about the cutoff at the end. It just a couple of words that got cut off, but I have fixed that. Its the part at the end where I referred to the thread here on the Flash chip serials. I originally had the entire list of Flash serials in my guide, but I hit the 20,000 character limit! Oh, and I do have a copy in case it gets pulled, thanks!
