Default Downgrading firmware on a chipod

As I cant extract the firmware on my new chi pod, the firmware is currently too new, I wondered any guesses as to the effects of a firmware downgrade?

I noticed the picture editor s1res, and thought ooh what a wonderful idea, change startup picture to home address etc.........

But as I cant extract my current version of firmware I wondered about editing an old firmware and flashing with that.

Obviously I would need to use the firmware from a player like mine, but then most are, I think, or do different hardware revisions of chi pod exist?

Lez, If your firmware is 9.0.XX series you can not downgrade it to 3.5.XX series they are for totally different chipsets. Trying to upload a new firmware to your player will more than likely kill it and because you can't make a backup of your firmware there will be very little chance of recovery.

Kinda thought that, why they have so many different hardware revisions to make all these firmawares not work I dont know, its no different than motherboard bios, you dont expect another manufacturers to work but you can always flash back to an earlier version if the current ones got issues......

I suppose its down to changing the hardware as different suppliers are used during the run due to availability / costs of individual parts.

Already had one of these two units throw a wobbler, one of them was giving disk error message whenever we tried to paly an mp3/amv/game that all worked fine last night, and its not even been plugged into a pc in the last few days!

The kids have the players, I have the cables............
