Slowness with our site

8 February 07

We have completed the upgrade and moved our database to our new server now! Hopefully if things go well, there shouldn't be anymore slowness issues. If it is, please post it in this thread -> here.

5 February 07

Our new server has been ordered and completed!!!
It's a P4, 3.0Ghz, 2GB RAM with a 72GB SCSI hard drive. Hopefully the faster SCSI drive and moving the database onto it's own server will make the site run a lot faster and with fewer problems.

In saying that, expect the site to be down for a few hours sometime this week while we move the database across. I will confirm the day soon.

12 January 07

As you all may have experienced, the site has been running really slow lately and sometimes doesn't load at all.

After many, many discussions and support tickets with Webair (our hosting company), they have said that the problem is there are lots of SQL queries sitting in the server that loops around and doesn't end. This then mounts up and eventually 'hangs' the server.

The site runs IntegraMOD, which is a modification of phpBB. It has about 30 different scripts, so I would have to find out which one of those is hanging the server.

However, on a good note, we are going to be getting another dedicated server! This one will be specific for the SQL Database that this site runs on. Spec'ed up to take the heavy load of a SQL database. It's actually going to cost more than what we currently have!

So hopefully within a week, we will have the new server and things should 'speed' up if all goes well.

Once again, apologies for the problems you are all experiencing at the moment. Thank you for your dedication and support for the site.

We are working on the issues and expect bigger and better things for this site very soon.

its ok admin...ive noticed that too..but i know this site will get better and better..God speed!

Don't know what you did already, but the site is loading real fast for me today.
Thanks!

deepakrr 11th Jan 2007 11:41 pm

nice to see people like you dedicated towards this site and ready to pay and keep this site going on for free for people like me and others who have problems with mp4 players.

thanks a lot :D

admin 12th Jan 2007 12:07 am

Glad to see the site is useful to everyone.

lddrizzt1,

I think sometimes the site runs fast if there are fewer visitors online at the same time. Next time you notice the site going slow, check out the main page and look at how many users are online at the same time (on the right hand panel) and let me know if it's more than 90 visitors.

lddrizzt1 12th Jan 2007 11:35 am

It's running a little slower than yesterday, 91 users online right now.

lattesurf 12th Jan 2007 12:30 pm

i've noticed that usually when the number of guests hits around 70 and above (perhaps the guests are the SQL queries? i don't know about all these stuff), the site gets extremely slow, and usually does not load.

i'm on a cable connection (downstreams around 250kb/s), so i guess the problem is not on my downstream.

Hopefully the new upgrades would smooth things out for all..

well im on 2mb/s on a pc with a 2.8ghz dual core processor with 2mb l2 cache and its still painfully slow

PleXo 14th Jan 2007 3:44 pm

its not ur pc or ur net speed, its basicly because kiddies are trying to hack this site admin has to add more security which is slowing the server down painfully

thats why he is getting a better server to handle it all :D

admin 15th Jan 2007 12:07 am

PleXo,

What my hosting company told me was that the problem is more with MySQL on our site and the scripts that run on our site.

I was told that we have over SQL 33 processes running on the server that was choking up the available memory on the server. Usually it's about 3-4 processes, but for some reason, it's about 33 processes or more! Even with 2GB of RAM, it chokes it.

It could well be hackers trying to hack my site by executing the other .php scripts on my site to find a vulnerability. I know it has been hacked before but I did a big block on the site and it has hasn't been hacked before. Your point is valid, I will check more on any other vulnerabilites, but as far as I know, it has to do withe MySQL server and that it's not 'killing' the processes from the server's memory.

Sure they do. It is all done in the factories by the manufacturers computer when they are made. I know this for a fact because I purchase these players by the hundreds and my Hong Kong supplier asked me one time if I would like to buy some 256mb players for a very very cheap price and that he can make them read/show as 4gb players. Of course I didn't want to go that route so I declined that offer. But anyways, it could be done by anybody that knows the secret I would say and that includes the manufacturers and the sellers.

Re: Slowness with our site

Great to hear that a fix for the slowdowns is coming. Load times are terribly slow for me, so I've not been posting much lately. Pages were take ages to load, sometimes not at all.
Keep up the great job with the site!

lattesurf 16th Jan 2007 9:36 am

Great! The site seems so much faster than before. The number of guests are still high, around 90 at this moment, but the site is able to load.

admin 17th Jan 2007 12:41 am

It's strange.
I think it has to do with a particular script that's loading on our site.

So it might be particular 'addon' or section on our site that slows it down. I am still unable to find out what is it.

I agree, I have seen sometimes 90 guest and the site still loads, while sometimes with only 50 online users, the site won't load up at all and MySQL has to be restarted because it's hung!

I'm still looking....
If anyone knows anything about IntegraMOD, please let me know.

lddrizzt1 17th Jan 2007 5:35 am

Mysql has a log file that will tell you all the processes it is running and what failed, and hung etc.
Might be a place to start?

i have 54 mbps internet speed and some pretty fast labtop. this site goes a lil faster then any normal site on an aol connection (i've had aol for 8 years be4 i got cable in the summer) also, in the last few days i noticed that this site doesn't load. it has some type of error and i have to wait till the server is running again or something

pmilladcs 4th Feb 2007 8:23 pm

i also might add that this site is thee best site for mpx players. admin, if you take this site down i'm gonna get strapped with a glock, find where you live and shoot u if you don't get it back up and running :-)

*LOL* :D

Trust me, I don't intend on closing down the site anytime soon that's for sure!!!

Hopefully the issues with the server will be minimised with our NEW SQL database server sometime this week!!!

.::Lain::. 7th Feb 2007 6:24 pm

Cool... This site keeps getting better and better ain't it?! I'm just glad there's a site like this that helps everyone who's new to Mpx! ^_^ Keep it up Mpx org...

admin 13th Feb 2007 1:24 am

Hi everyone,

What do you think of the site now that we've moved our database to it's own dedicated server?

Is it going any faster for you?
I noticed there are no errors now since the changeover. Fingers cross it stays that way.

Love to hear your feedback.

deepakrr 13th Feb 2007 1:31 am

its been doing faster for me than before.

i was getting errors before while searching for downloads but its ok now.

overall i have noticed a big difference in speed and i havent been getting those MySQL database errors.

thanks a lot for the new dedicated server admin. it will help in getting loads of new members who were earlier put off by the slow speed.

thanks once again :)

lattesurf 13th Feb 2007 2:29 am

The site seems much better now.
But there seems to be a problem with the Search Downloads link on the left. Whenever i try to search something, the SQL comes back with some errors.

gaboon 16th Feb 2007 7:51 am

good work admin..!!!this site is running better now....congrats bravo

admin 17th Feb 2007 3:25 am

Thanks guys for the feedback.

Glad the site is working well.

I haven't seen it crashed once this week. Has anyone else has recently?

Re: Slowness with our site

As a new member and not knowing how fast or slow it was before I find it very slow in loading the pages in comparison to other forums I visit, hope this is of some help to you

Apart from that some very good info available here :)

lattesurf 17th Feb 2007 8:48 am

The site's very much better. The search downloads error seems to have disappeared. No hanging experienced so far. Great work!
