Car adapter for mp3/mp4 player?

I would like one day to be able to hook up my mp4 (say, Glacier) to a car stereo, but I dont know much about the devices that allow you to do that. I know the "FM Transmitter" type is possible, but having experience with those cheesy FM Microphones.... I don't have any hope that transmitting audio on an FM band is going to yield clear, decent quality sound. Do you tune the radio on a certain frequency to get your mp3 audio? Are there alternatives to hooking up to your car stereo for players that do not have power jacks and must use the headphone output? Or are the FM transmitter type okay?

I use a rather simple FM transmitter on my mp3 player, mobile phone with mp3 player and even a real iPod video. The transmitter I have works well, but I used other transmitters and they are not good or even useless. The sound quality will be not so good, and the stereo effects will be gone to. A good option might be a radio with aux connection in the front. So you can connect any mp3 player with a 3.5mm connection to it. This will give a direct connection to the car radio with not quality loss.

I bought one for my daughter and it works fantastic!! Excellent stereo separation, volume, and tone quality. Just be sure to get one that tunes throughout the entire FM band so your sure to find a good blank spot on the FM spectrum.

Hotboxx/Avonik:

Thanks for the replies. Can you identify which FM transmitter you have or say where you got it from, so that I can get the exact same and know that I'm getting a good one?

I have two types of FM transmitters.

They both work great. Both connect directly into the earphone jack of the player and plays directly on my car stereo.

The one with the holder is better because it plugs into your cigerette lighter and you click your player to is so stands it up quite nicely rather than laying down.

The ones I have were imported by myself from a Chinese manufacturer. I've stopped doing them now.

My best bet is to look at eBay as they have a lot listed.

Hope that helps.
