Meizu takes another big bite of the Apple
 

The Meizu M6 was recently voted the most popular flash memory player in a poll conducted at Frances largest on-line MP3 related site (21,500 members) GenerationMP3.
With the upcoming release of thr Meizu M3 MusicCard and the Meizu M8 which will be a music phone Apple is bound to face some serious competition as Meizu continues to increase its global market.
Knowing Meizu their products will be seriously cheaper than the Apple equivalent.

Awwww, I want that phone! Windows mobile! It should have 5 or 6 mp for the camera instead of 3, but I can live with that.

any idea when the musicphone will be released and its range of cost and whether or not it will have a nokia type replaceable battery?

deepakrr, no word on the cost as yet or the release date but the M3 is due out in March. Looking at the MusicPhone it has a battery cover so i imagine it has a replacable battery.

pmilladcs, 4GB Meizu M6, they are also about to release an 8GB version of it that will retail in China for about $170.00 USD which is what the 4GB version was selling for. The 4GB will come down in price.

Meizu are currently running a competition for either a 2GB M6 or a 4GB M3. All you have to do is design your own version of the M3. I already have my entry in :). There will be 3 winners decided by Meizu forum member votes.

Alright.. i went on to search for more info on the M8..
Here are the results:

Maximum estimated cost is at 2000 Chinese Yuan. Approximately USD$260. The estimate was based on other Chinese PMP prices. But since now the M8 includes GSM technology, likely the official price would be either at USD$260 or slightly higher.

Surprisingly, it only contains 1 processor, the ARM11 MPCore. However, this processor seems to be quite robust. Further info on this processor here http://www.arm.com/products/CPUs/ARM...processor.html

Running off Windows CE, this means that Meizu needs to pay Microsoft for the Windows CE license. This would again increase the selling price.
There is much talk about Meizu running the M8 off linux instead. So this we'll know when the time is ripe.

So when would it be out? Nobody knows for sure, some rumours in 2008, some 2007. I would think that it'll be out very soon, in perhaps 1-2 months after the Apple iPhone official sales start.
