Default Player Sets Bitrate to 0kbps

Hi
First post, so apologies if this is nothing new, but bought this player from eBay, and synchronised it with Windows Media Player 11, and initially had no problems. I then noticed that some songs were being repeated, so looking at it in a Windows Explorer window, saw that some tracks were made up of 5 tracks called exactly the same, one with blank bit rate, 1 with o bitrate, and the others with 64kbps. If you delete one in Explorer, it asks you to confirm deletion 5 times. Then the files appear again at the bottom of the window. I then went into the player, deleted all files and tried again. Same problem. I have tried about 5 times, with the player turned on and off, and have copied files manually (wma and mp3 format, both of which I know it can play), but as soon as you turn the player on, all files are seen as 0kbps bitrate and I get a format error.
The firmware is shown as
ACT2097_S75 9.0.50
Before I contact the seller, is there anything I'm doing wrong, or is there a specific format these things like the music in? I had an IPOD nano lookalike, but the battery lasted about an hour tops, which is why I replaced it with this - battery life is excellent, but it won't now play music.
Any suggestions gratefully received
Regards
Martin

MartinS, The problems you discribe are consistent with some of the symptoms of a hacked player.
If you bought from the same seller (Keistore) you linked to he is also known to sell hacked players and appears on the ebay Blacklist.

To fix the problem you can use 'lattesurfs' guide here to rebuild the players partition.

If the player does have a hacked memory chip then you will find that after removing the hack that your player will read it's true memory size which will be much lower than the advertised size of 4GB.

Let us know the outcome.

OK, followed the instructions and guess what, I've now only got 1GB player! I have emailed the seller, and if I have not heard from them within 24 hours I will be setting up a dispute and claim with Paypal for a full refund as item is not as described. I've also signed the petition - I hope it helps!
Thanks for the links/advice - much appreciated. I will let you know how the refund goes.
Thanks again
Martin
