Player with Nokia-compatible battery - does it deliver ?

So what is the battery life on these Nokia-battery-based players exactly?

the one which comes with the player should give you about 6-7 hours but if you buy the original nokia battery (bl-4c), you should get double of that

When I get it, I will be sure to give a review.

I plan to copy 5 x 700MB Divx files onto it then to copy them back to my computer.
If the files copied back onto my computer are playable then it should be the real 4GB.

I'm not technical enough to split it open and peak in on the flash memory lol

What scares me right now is that the seller mentions "Caution: Please do not format the player; otherwise, you will loss all files that needs for running of the MP4 player." which may be a cover up to scare ppl from exposing the real memory size.

In general, there are many other Nokia-battery-based players. Some might have the same problems, some more and some lesser.

Do give us a player review of your purchase. Very interested to know of the real memory capacity. Since the seller stated that there are fake 4GB, whilst theirs are genuine 4GBs.

No. It hasn't behaved itself, I have actually gotten very little use out of it (never taken it outside for example), and have not been able to get it to charge either of my two batteries yet. That's why I kind of have a love/hate relationship with my Glacier right now. PM'ed the UXCell rep here twice, still waiting to hear back, so I don't know when or if I will get a working Glacier. At least while it was alive, I did not experience random restarts. For that I can only suggest you try pulling out the gold pins just a bit, so that they all jut out roughly equally, and/or placing a sheet of paper under the battery at the opposite side of the pins, to make a tighter fit when the lid is closed.

Given the low low price of true BL-4C's on eBay, I don't see why they don't just supply original BL-4C's in their players, price the units a few bucks more, make more people happy and eliminate a lot of costly problems for themselves as well. The knockoffs they supply with the units are clearly inferior quality, and I noticed the gold contact plates are not as evenly aligned as on my original Nokia battery. All the problems with the Glacier can be solved with some redesign and improvements are easy. If left in my hands, and it were up to me, it'd be an Ipod Killer in about 24 hrs. Most people would gladly pay the slight increase in price. You could have two models for those that won't: Present Flawed Glacier, and Glacier Deluxe by Michigan J. Frog!

As for the discharging unless you completely turn it off, that's normal with many mp4 players. Some discharge more than others apparently. It's the reason I decided against getting a Clix, which itself was an alternative to getting a Glacier. Its rated 25 hours went down to a pitiful 3 over the course of 3 days, if you didn't completely turn it off. And the catch was, you couldn't completely turn it off. Problem is if you turn off these players completely , you lose your settings. So its always a decision between losing battery life or losing settings.

I bought another Glacier for a friend, and no problems reported yet, but then she hasn't used it for much more than 10 minutes, I think. Hasn't even formatted yet and is afraid of doing so, because I explained that I had problems trying to format mine. I really wanted to get a third Glacier for another friend before mine totally broke down and refused to charge any batteries, but decided against it since I did not know yet what kind of support I'd get from UX on my dead Glacier, or how reliable they are in the long term. I don't like to take chances with other people's money. I ordered instead another deluxe Full Metal Platinum for her from UXcell, because I was impressed by the first one I bought, and other than the disappointing 3 hour battery life, didn't have any real problems with it.

That's right! I read that in the Glacier manual about not formatting the player, and so naturally, the first thing I did was format the unit. Happy to say its a true 2GB. I'm sure you're technical enough to low level format your 4GB using MP3 Player Disk Tool (step by step instructions included on this site in the hacked player thread), and that would be the best thing to do before you copy the files.

I wanted to buy some Creative EP630's on eBay recently. After seeing a seller mention in his ad that he is selling original EP630's and how to spot a fake (ipod earbuds), and after confirming he is selling fakes, I don't trust anything anyone says on eBay. I have in fact, found that every single seller selling Ep630's are fraudsters selling fakes! You can not buy real Ep630's right now there, in their original packaging.

Yup, sure was. Last I heard, he finally got his glaciers back but they were still presenting problems. I really want to give glaciers the benefit of the doubt, but after seeing all the problems people, including myself, have had with them, I'm afraid I'll just have to write them off as unreliable. There were one or two people who haven't had any problems with theirs, but I guess that they're just the lucky ones. Anyway, I'll try pulling the gold pins out and see if that works. For now I've basically abandoned the glacier and am relying on a rockchip player I got because it's so much better.

Yes, that was me. Got 2 other players back, but the same static in radio recording too as the ones returned (that died both btw) no european chargers and 1 charger dead. It's just not a top quality product, but you can't seem to expect that for that price. I enjoy the player anyhow, just not with classical or quiet music because of the cpu distortion. I don't leave home without it.

It was 512mb which is basically nothing, but I plan to expand it later with a mini-sd card. Aside from the UGLY firmware (the main screen is hideous), it's excellent. Multitasking, file browsing, user EQ, and just so much faster than actions chipset players. I highly recommend it. Here's two other pics for good measure:
