Help! My daughter's MP4 player is not working.

Hi there, hope you can help me.
My mom bought my daughter a Sony MP3/4 player while in Thailand. It worked fine when my brother downloaded some songs to it from his laptop. After he went away, I tried to plug it into my computer to put more music on it. My computer tells me it needs to be formatted. The info I got off of the S1fwx tool says this:
file id =0x0ff0aa55
vendor id - 0x10d6
product id = 0x1100
version = 3.5.37
date = 12/16/2005
infor = 'sdk-item/actionsgongee.zh'
manufacturer = 'wilson co. ltd.'
device name = 's1 mp3 player'

There's more but do you need it?
Anyway, I'd like to keep the songs on it as well as add to it. Is that a lost cause?
Thanks!!

Well, i think you have to format it. But do it in FAT system, not in FAT 32 system — that's more common in Windows.

Russ, If it needs formating then you are going to lose the files on it. You may not even be able to format it if the partition table is corrupt, you may need to create a new partition.
You can try running an error check with windows by right clicking on the drive, select Propertie>Tools>Error checking, select both options then start.
