Why are these players so stupid?

I admire the technical specs of these cheap ipod clones, but cant understand why the firmware is so buggy and inconsistent? One would think they would have that part nailed down ? I am sure there is a good reason based on economics... One thing I always did was just pull the USB cable out without doing the 'safely remove hardware' . Perhaps this caused damage to my firmware?

yup, it probably did damage your firmware. well, maybe one thing could be that for the people making these, it probably isn't a labor of love? i mean, its probably just a job for them. not really pushing the envelope in terms of quality, innovation, etc, like what apple does. maybe if someone from the forums can get work there, he/she can turn out firmware that runs much more smoothly and is far more intuitive, and, LOOKS BETTER. lol

Speaking as a software designer, I can say that more than half the programming time (ie, cost) goes into designing the interface (as opposed to creating the actual functionality) so if you're trying to save money, the first thing that goes out the window is "intuitivness." You also have cross-cultural issues to consider -- the firmware may make a lot more sense to the people who are designing it.

Let's look at it in another way. The Apple iPod is designed for stupid people who need a non complicated interface.

The Chipod is designed for people with smart brains and are willing to learn somthing new.

The Apple iPod is stupid, the Chipod is smart.

My pod was slightly glitchy when I got it, but I updated the firmware and it was fine.

Well I'm just amazed about the effort of the chinese people to clone players such as an I-Pod, hope to see Creative to be cloned soon...

And anyway that's why they're "CHEAP" don't expect for a perfect interface if the price is surprisingly LOW... What the following industries are targetting is the design itself, they don't really concentrate on the software as long as the device plays a music... ^_^

i dont have much complaints against the interface as the firmware is easily editable and the theme can be changed. its just that people having versions 9.0.43 and above have to wait a bit longer

Another way to look at it.... the iPod is for sheep. Dumb, mindless mp4 zombies who will do, buy and use anything that corporations tell them to buy, so they can fit in with the other mindless sheep. Whereas the chipod owners? "Too cheap to be sheep!".

I wouldn't take an iPod if you paid me.
