Best ear plugs/phones?
 

what's the reccomendation for the best earplugs for my glacier? Also best earphones (reasonably priced)

Also... I know this sounds silly... but I cannot find a set of ear plugs that fit the holes in my ears. I have tried several brands and they are all too big. I have to jam them in until it hurts and then they fall out anyway.

Is it just me? As far as I know I have "normal' sized ears and my hearing is very good and I'm not deformed or anything (at least not physically) So do they come in sizes or what? Thanks for any advice.

oldschooljohn , perhaps you can try using the in-canal earbuds types. They're smaller and fit directly into your ear canal. Music quality is also much better that as compared to the normal earbuds you mentioned.

Best earphones for the Glacier? Probably the triple.fi model from Ultimate Ears. I think they cost about $900. Of course, you don't say what's a "reasonable price" so its impossible to know what you're looking for. I recently bought a pair of OVC T20's that I think are a reasonable price ($26US shipped), and some rate them better than Sennheiser CX300's (they look very similar). There's an eBay seller selling "i-Voda"'s which are similar, also made by OVC, cheaper than the T20's, and seem to leave their customers satisfied (yes, I queried them). Other models with good reputations (albeit higher prices than the lesser known brands) are the Panasonic HJE-50, Creative EP630 and Sharp (MD33? has a four pin plug w/ adapter).

The OVC's, CX300's, EP630's, Sharp, Pana's, I-Voda's and all these type of earbuds use silicone fittings to make a seal in your ear. They are known as "semi canalphones", because they dont go deep in the ear. The silicone buds they use usually come in 3 sizes, S/M/L, so one should fit. There are some variances among the silicone fittings, so some earbuds might fit better than others. You haven't said what you've tried so again, you give nothing to go on for a recommendation.

If you have a problem with them falling out, I would check out models like the Audio Technica ATH-CK5 or Sony EX-81 (possibly EX51/71). They too have the S/M/L silicone buds, but they also hang on the ear, making it impossible to fall out, and the CK5 is particularly known to be comfortable. It has a special loop design that fits in the folds of the ear.
Note that you are better off not buying CK5's or EP630's on eBay, they're all fakes, and so are most CX300's and many Sony's as well. (The OVC's aren't because.... who would want to fake them? The more popular the phone on eBay, the more likely it is to be a fake).

i have heard many people saying that Sennheiser PMX200 is great. it costs about 30US$ i think.

i own a Philips SBC HL155, it isnt the best but it fulfills my needs and its only 15US$ :D

I've used Koss 'the plug' canal phones. They are fairly cheap (I'd guess you can find them for $15-20) and they do a good job. They have foam tips that you squish and then shove in your ear. The foam tips then expand to block the sound and you can get great isolation. They don't sound bad either.

After awhile I got tired of squishing the foam into my ears and got Cresyn 630. They are supposed to be like Creative's ep630s in terms of quality but I don't have them to compare. They don't block out as much surrounding noise but they are easier to insert. They have 3 sizes of tips too and I find the act of wearing these earphones to be better.

These are 3 choices that you can get fairly cheaply and they will sound better and depending upon what you like one will feel nice to you.

I'd advise against getting a set a earphones that cost a lot if you buy the player that is the cheapest among those of a similar capacity. I have an old Zen Xtra Nomad and my cheapie players don't sound using the same files.
