Full Metal Platinum Bettery life
 

I was wondering, what is the estimated life span of a fully charged 1.8 Full Metal Platinum 1GB mp4?

I was considering taking back my 1.5 screened Chipod. Since it barley runs for 4 hours. And I love listening to music for long periods of time. So I need something that can run for a good amount of time.

So does anyone know the battery life of a fully charged Full Metal Platinum?

And I already looked at the reviews for the Full Metal Platinum but I really couldnt find the battery run time.

i think all of uxcell's mp4 players have a battery life of 6-8 hours.

Hi, I am waiting on a new 2Gb 1.8 Full MP it should arrive early next week as I have had shipping confirmation. I am wondering the same question, I have had two Super I Platinums and the first one which got sent back after the USB ceased to work, was about 3 hours of battery life. I got another exactly the same model sent for free from Uxcell. Interesting point here is the battery life of the new one was nearly 5.5 hours, :roll: Hmmm interesting. I was toying with the idea of swapping out the original units battery(180 mAh) for a Nano replacement from Ebay (400 mAh), and then the second unit but in the end I fritzed the second unit. GO FIGURE!! :shock: so I never actually completed the operation. I am expecting average results from the new unit, and hope it is at least 4 - 5 hours full charge :D :D :) :) :(
I will be happy with that as I am not sure how easy these new ones are to open up for a looky loo :shock: and a battery swap!!

I too became keenly interested in changing the battery on my 1.8" FMP.
It seems to last about 3 hrs. Not enough for a long bus trip. Some reported theirs lasting longer, so I think it all depends on how generous the tiny Chinese elves were that day when they were installing your battery. As I'm sure we all know, quality can vary among Chipods, but expect a min. of 3 hrs on music.

There is information on the subject on these boards, including a bit in my previous messages. But here's what I've learned about that in collected form:

I only did my searches here yesterday, but now I cant recall who it was, perhaps you Joffa, but someone here did install a higher cap battery and ended up "fritzing" their unit (it was bulging arouind the clickwheel area).
The conclusion was that cheap CHinese cells and battries that lack (working) overcharging IC's can do this. So I sought out good sources of high-cap batteries on eBay and came up with this, from cellular-link:

It uses Japanese cells, not Chinese ("Cameron-Sino technology"), it is ISO 9001 & CE certified, built to last 2-3 years, designed to exceed OEM specs and comes with a one year warantee from a reputable organization based in Canada (ie. not a fly by nighter in Hong Kong). Best of all, its only about $10 shipped! Far cry from the $60+ that Apple charges you for a battery of lower capacity!


Other dealers that may have good Nano aftermarket batteries are Maplins and UXCell (330mah for $4.99US). The FMP battery appears to be 200mah, so 400mah would theoretically double the playing time. The only unanswered question here is whether it fits the FMP. There was some debate about whether a 400mah nano battery can fit a nano clone, with some saying yes, others saying not without some difficulty. But thats fairly easy to find out, you just need to remove the player's battery, take measurements of the area in which it fits, then ask the dealer for the exact specs of his battery. The specs I found for UXCells 1.8" Super I-Platinum from a member here is: 20mm x 37mm x 4mm. I dont know if thats the exact same specs for the FMP, but UXCells 330mah battery is: 36*18*4 mm, which is slightly smaller than the fitting for the I-Platinum, so that should be okay.

I would have done this, but my FMP replacement battery project has been put on hold for the time being. It shouldn't be that difficult to remove the battery. You pry off the white end caps on the FMP (there should be screws behind this), then after unscrewing whatever needs to be unscrewed, you carefully slide the innards out. I dont know if the player's battery is soldered or is plugged into a jumper terminal. Putting back the end caps back might be tricky, I dont know! I suppose they are glued back? Someone here did take their FMP apart, but I dont remember that name either...
