Default Need mp3/mp4 player reccomendation. Thx.

Hi,

Seeking mp3/mp4 player for new grandma. I need it for:

- Carry around photos and videos of baby
- Of course music.

It must have/be:

- Easy to operate
- 4GB
- Have an AC adapter as end user does not have PC.
- Affordable.

Some questions;

- Is it simple to convert AVI files to chipod acceptable file?
- Are the earphone the "standard" US size or do I need adapter?
- Is video resolution worse, same, better than the nano?
- Do all players look like the nano?'
- Where can I find info about the different type of players, their pros, cons, etc...
- Do these players have brands? or are they catalogued simply by the chipset and firmware?

Finally, can someone reccomend a trusted site/ebay seller to purchase a true 4GB flash memory media player? I am in the US if it helps for anything.

Thx.

try getting Glacier from UXCell

it has a 2 inch 262k colour TFT Screen. it even has a nokia type battery which can be easily replaced.

- Is it simple to convert AVI files to chipod acceptable file?
Yes. the mp4 players come with a converter which will help you to convert to amv and also reduce the file size considerably

- Are the earphone the "standard" US size or do I need adapter?
Glacier comes with 3.5mm which is the standard worldwide one. some mp4 players comes with 2.5mm which is used in mobile phones

- Is video resolution worse, same, better than the nano?
nano doesnt play videos even if it did, the resolution would be about 128x96. Glacier plays videos at 208x176. if you get one of those 1.8 inch players you will be able to play videos at 120x160

- Do all players look like the nano?'
no they dont. the ones which look like nano are common. Glacier looks totally different and so does my nokia battery mp4 player

- Where can I find info about the different type of players, their pros, cons, etc...
If you go through this website, you will find the major complaints. i can tell you some
Pros
1. Excellent features which iPods dont have including Video, FM, Picture Viewer, eBook (txt) reader
2. Very low prices
3. Change the interface/UI through theming
Con
1. Some have hacked memory.
2. The ones with Li-Po (not nokia) battery will die after 2 yrs or less.

- Do these players have brands? or are they catalogued simply by the chipset and firmware?
There are branded ones like Teclast and Meizu but most are unbranded

If it really needs to be easy to operate, then a chipod may not be the answer,
as these (ACTION chipset anyway) can frustrate the technically challenged.
They're not great for file browsing, because they cant sort by ID3 tags (ie. artist, etc).
They require patience because they take time to register a click (and you've clicked
without realizing it, then they do your last move while you're on the 3rd move after that).
Plus, they are not very intuitive. That said, if there are budget restraints and the above isn't an issue, the FMP is probably the best bet (2nd gen Nano clone). The ones I know of are 2GB, but you can find 2nd gen nano clones at 4GB.

Otherwise, if you want easy to operate and budget isnt an issue, then I'd suggest the iRiver Clix (again, 2GB but there may be a 4GB ver. out now or soon), or the Meizu M6 (4GB ver.). Maybe even a Sandisk E260, something like that. Not sure if there's an optional AC adapter for the Clix though, and for the Meizu, I'm pretty sure the AC adapter is optional.

Try CNET for info on branded players. Try here for unbranded players. Try eBay for ideas (type in 4GB)

glacier just the same as a chipod , alot of people on here dont like them or have falts with them , i wouldnt go for a glacier if i were you , a mezui is a little more exspensive at like £60 - i think ? , but its a neat little player , i have one , i also have a chipod , one of the very few 4gb ones , i also have a 1gb one , they are neat but much harder to use . alot smaller but that also incldues a smaller screen.
If i were you id go with the mezui - 4gb large screen , properly made and branded , nice firmware toutch sensitive weel. whereas if you want a proper 4gb nano clone that would be prob about £25 -£35 ( youd need to find a good seller and do your research)
