jtodd2823 , any typical speakers with a 3.5mm jack can be used with the player (eg computer speakers, mp3 speakers, etc).
But i do recommend speakers which are externally powered. They can either be battery or AC adaptor powered. The reason for this is that it lowers the power consumption on your player. As the external power supply amplifies the sounds without giving extra load to the player's battery. |

It's not the battery you need to worry about, it's MP3 player's internal amplifier which will eventually get screwed if you use speakers that draw power from the player. Most MP3 players are designed for 32 ohms earphone loads. When you connect a speaker directly, they will be 8 ohms at best (if not 4 ohms). An 8 ohm speaker will draw 4 times more power from the player's amplifier (yes the battery too), and thus the amplifier will have to dissipate 4 times more heat - and they are not designed to do that. If your speaker has a 4ohm impedance, it will overload the player by 8 times!! So make sure that you use powered speakers, or feed the player's signal into an external amplifier. usually, an external amplifier or powered speaker's load to the MP3 player will be almost zero as their impedance to the MP3 player will be 10,000 ohms or higher. good luck. |

You could also get an FM transmitter off EBay or elsewhere and broadcast to an FM radio or stereo receiver. I use this approach on a daily basis.
I've tried a few different transmitters and the one I've found works the best for me in terms of broadcasting output allows for selection of up to 200 frequencies and has the four memory buttons below the screen. The one that I have comes with a USB power cable and a detachable car connector so can power it without batteries from your computer or through a USB power source, adapter,... This USB capability is really handy. This is like the one I have with USB powerability: http://cgi.ebay.ca/WHITE-FM-Transmit...QQcmdZViewItem There seem to be many suppliers carrying them and those from Hong Kong/China seem more powerful than those available in NA like the Belkin brand ones. If you have the volume of the sound source on high and use a headphone extensioncord between the sound source and transmitter, you should get good transmission throughout your place; probably in to your backyard if you have a house. I often broadcast internet streams at home this way so that if listening to sports or talk, don't miss anything if going room to room if have a couple of radios turned on. |
