Default which nano clone is the best?

As most of you know, I broke my last nano clone and am unable to repair it. It was 2 gigabytes, but I barely used over a gigabyte of it. It was 60 dollars. It's the one that's in my profile pic.
I'm trying to buy a new one, atleast over 1 gigabyte. It has to be less than 40 dollars, and that includes shipping. I just want a cheap one, but the best nano clone there is. All it needs to have is a music player, and a video player, and file browsing. I don't care about anything else. It can't look really ugly, and can't have a super slow processor. I dont' care which generation it is, and i want it to be from ebay, uxcell, or some trusted website.
Which nano clone should I get?

Not sure you can get that for $40. I just ordered two 1GB 1.8" Full Metal Platinum's from Uxcell (review to come shortly). Being new to chiPods, I have to say that I was very impressed with what I received. They were ordered for my boys so that they could watch their cartoons/movies when we take road trips or travel (Hurray!! I don't have to listen to Barney on the DVD player anymore.... ). Anyway, the video playback is quite good (I am an old school KVCD enthusiast, so getting a decent quality video comes quick. AviSynth is your friend :P ). I don't have the first gen clones to compare to, but I like the quality of the screen and the playback. I loaded it up with some VBR OGG's and they all played like a champ. MP3's played just as good. Again, I was very impressed with the results.

So back to your question: "Which nano clone should I get?"
Based on my limited buying experience, I would totally recommend Uxcell. Fast service and good products. They have the FMP 1.5" 1GB for $34 + $5 shipping so that brings you to $1 under budget. If you can, go $5 over budget and get the FMP 1.8" 1G.

Anyway, that would be, and was, my choice. Did I mention I ordered one for myself?

Well, the bad news I have for you today is... you cant have the "best nano clone" for under $40. However, you can have a 2GB 1st gen Nano clone for under $40 if you have patience bidding on eBay, as I bought one from ELLIESHANG (you can see it featured in my Nano Clone Buying Guide).

You can also get a 1GB 1.8" FMP from UXCELL and meet your budget, with the 13% discount offered to mympxplayer members (if I,m not mistaken on that!). If you dont have that discount, I'll give you one of my UXCELL discounts and that will get it under $40US. The FMP meets all of your criteria better than the 1st gen nano (and sounds a bit better), but its 1GB v. 2GB.

The 13% discount expired on 2/22/07.

By far, the best nano clone would have to be the 2GB Full Metal Platinum 1.8. I'm sure a few here would agree with me

Although I've always thought of "chipods" as 1st gen nano clones, I believe the term may technically refer to any unbranded mp4 player, or at the very least, 2nd gen nano clones. When you're talking about this wide a variety of playeres, theres no average battery life. When you're talking about first gen nano clones.... well mine do average 2 hrs or so. Hence the reason I sold them and would never buy one of these any longer. Especially when a 2nd gen nano clone from uxcell is not much more. I'm guessing even their version of the 1st gen nano clone, the i-platinum, probably has a better battery life than the 100% generic version (there are other factors about their 1st gen "chipods" that make them superior to many of the generic 1st gen's).

Okay, then which are the best ipod clones then? I've read Meizu and Teclast. What makes these good? If you had to choose between three or four, which are your top picks? I'm just curious. They can be 1 to 2 GBs. Also, where can you buy them? They need to be available to Canadians. I'm just curious but I'd probably look at some (if there are enough positive reviews) but they'd have to be very enticing compared to 2GB brand names. I'm thinking iRiver, Cowon, iPod Nano and maybe the Samsung (I forget the model name). What do you think?

Btw, if you have any links with good write-ups or recommendations, please send or list them.
