Default change cell phone firmware?

i have a motorola v265 cell phone with verizon wireless. i kno this is kinda off subject, but can i switch the firmware or something? the phone has like 2 megabytes of memory, but i want to put videos on it, small converted videos like other phones. also, i can't send picture messages. i think that new firmware will fix this. does anybody know what i should do, or if there's any site like mympxplayer.org for cell phones.

i think the answer would be a definite 'no' to the firmware upgrade... phones don't work like that. And with only 2mb of memory you may as well forget about loading videos onto it. Unless of course it can display 3gp videos but they'd soon chew up that memory up pretty quick. As for your problem sending MMS or picture messages, you'd have to get that feature enabled with your carrier. And as always with Motorola.. what you see is what you get.

If you're looking for a phone with a little more 'pizzaz' and at least be capable of playing videos and even mp3's , i'd recommend the Motorola L6 or even better, the L7

Default Re: change cell phone firmware?

_odyssey, yea i kno it would chew up my memory, putting videos on isn't my main purpose. i got my old phone replaced with this one. it's the exact same phone, motorola v265. i think that the only difference is the firmware. before, i used to send .QCP ringtones to it and i could set them as ringtones, now they can only be played in the audio media player, but not be set as ringtones. i have the same plan, i have picture messaging enabled. i can recieve picture messages, but i can't send them. everytime i get to like 80 percent, it would say "unable to send message"
i'm trying to get a free midi converter that converts audio files to midi without turning it to piano keys, but to sound exacly the same. on my old phone i had 20 ringtones, half of them i bought. i just bought a ringtone last week from something like jamster, and it didn't recognize the file type. i think it's possible to change the firmware but i dont kno how to. also, it has 4 megabytes, not 2.
delacerda, i have been a member of that site for like 2 in a half months. i posted this question 2 in a half months ago, and i haven't recieved an answer until a month in a half later. guess what the reply was! "go ask the person you got it from" my dad bought the replacement phone from his friend. so i'm not going back to that site just to wait 2 months for a crappy answer.

I take back what I said in the previous post.. it was midnight and i'd had a bourbon or two LOL so I stand corrected on one thing.. yes it is possible to update a cell phones 'firmware' but not in the way you'd update or restore an mp4 player. You can flash the chip on board to unlock the phone with a certain provider or set it up to use any provider no matter where you are. This is a very complex procedure and just like an mp4 player, if not done correctly will 'brick' your phone. As for changing it's features eg. playing different ringtone types, and operational capabilities.. nah.. forget it.

If the last phone was the same brand and model and could play .qcp ringtones this one should be able to as well. There might be a setting thats not right or something ...but something else could be the problem.
I have a Nokia 6225. It can play .mid and .qcp files however.. for certain operations like message tone or ringtone.. it will often refuse to recognise .qcp. I don't know why.. it's a crazy phone. i'm getting rid of it when my plan expires in a few months. Anyway i found that if i rename a file and change the file extension from .qcp to .mid it will play every time. eg. change 'tone.qcp' to 'tone.mid'.
Another thing to note is the quality and format of .qcp file you're using. Similar to Wav format it must be set to PCM, 8000khz, 16bit and Mono. otherwise it'll refuse to play in either .mid or .qcp extensions. You can make your own ringtones from mp3's using this tutorial (i use it too) http://surfing.textamerica.com/?r=1954769

Now... for picture.. do you have the quality setting set up right? .. if the file is too large it won't send.. simple as that.. you might have to reduce the quality so the file is smaller in photo settings. Give it a try.
Save your money dude (from what i've read in your posts it's a requirement), don't buy wallpapers and stuff from websites. They all rip offs as far as i'm concerned. Go to http://www.zedge.net and sign up for a free account. You'll need a USB cable for the phone.

I hope that helps
