What is the probability I brick my player doing this

Hey folks, I've done a fair amount of modding on a 3.5.37 F/W MP4 player, and recently acquired one of the new, and as of yet un-extractable, 5.0.50 players. After hours of scouring, I found one 5.0.50 F/W file that is fairly close:

Mine is a:
1.8"
LSD_9112_20 2006-10-21
9.0.50 2005-01-09

the one I found:
1.8"
LSD_9316_0 2006-12-31
9.0.50 2006-12-21


I used s1res to put a new load sequence into the F/W I found, but I haven't had the guts to upload it, cause if Im wrong I'll have a shiny, blue paperweight on my hands. What do you think the chance of it working is?

The chance of it working is 0 %. Even with the exact same FW. Once extracted the FW needs to be repaired and flashed back, those last 2 actions are not supported correctly for these FW versions yet, the file gets corrupt, and you end up with a dead player. Don't do!!

Liquidice007 , if your player if working properly, like what the others said, don't do a firmware update.

You'll most likely end up with an expensive paper weight.

Im not using an extracted one, however your saying that even if I have a correct FW file, it doesn't upload correctly? I thought it was just the extraction process.

Liquidice007 , there could be hundreds or even thousands of variants of v9.0.50 firmwares.

So what i can say for sure is that even if the version number is the same v9.0.50 or even the other numbers like LSD_9316_0 2006-12-31 are the same, likely they are 99% different.
And you'll only brick your player with this update.

There is no benefit in updating firmwares, as you don't get additional functions. The only thing useful would only be able to theme your player. But only if you do it on your own extracted firmware, then it is very safe.

Your preaching to the choir buddy, if you had read my post entirely, you would have seen I'm doing it for themes. I'm well aware that updating FW doesn't get you new features.

If the version numbers have no bearing on the exact firmware type, what is the point of them, and how do you concretely identify it as anything?

Liquidice007 , As i have already mentioned. There are hundreds or even thousands of variants of the SAME version number.

The manufacturers don't care if the versions are different, but still sport the same numbers.

They do not practice proper versions control.

This is a hard fact of all these chipods and nano-clones.

The bottom line is, if it isin't your own extracted firmware, do not flash it in, even if everything looks the same. Unless you want to take a gamble of course.
