new delstar mp4 from friend, i guess it's dead

Ok, my friend got a 100 dollar Delstar MP4 player. 512 megabytes of memory. It wasn't really worth 100 dollar though, because it has "actions" firmware. The firmware veresion is 9.0.48.
I know all this information because he let me borrow it before, so that I could put videos on it (ppl r stupid) so I did. I returned it to him safe and sound. (this was like 3 months ago)
Then, like a month later, he told me that it can't turn on any more, it's broken. I told him to let me see it, but he didn't have it, and then I joined basketball and didn't ride the bus for like 3 months. A while ago the season was over, and yesterday I told him to give it to me on the bus. So there you go, I have it. I thought that all I would have to do was format it, or maybe put some new firmware on it (hey, it's broken anyways)
I connected it via USB and all that shows up on the task bar (i think that's what it's called) is "USB Device" or something. Then a window pops up called "Found New Firmware"
I know that, that window won't help or anything, but I tried it anyways. It obviously doesn't work.
So what should I do? I really have no clue. The screen stays on the hour glass.

pmilladcs , likely some hardware component has failed which would be extremely hard to rectify.
Else, if it is a firmware corruption, you'll just need to try flashing all the various dumps to test.

i would try flashing with other firmware ~*but*~ it's stuck on the hour glass, even when i connect it.
the flash disk does not show.
And it is charged, maybe even overcharged.
My friends says it happened when he was listening to music, then he turned it off, 5 minutes later he turned it on and it only displayed the hour glass.
