Default Inside my cheap ebay player

Well I wish i'd read this site before being fooled. However i received my player this week and i decided to take it apart to see what it really is...

Here it is in all its glory. It feels ok the buttons work quite well.
What i didn't take a picture of was the back. There's a little sticky label stating 8gb

I decide to take it apart. Its held by 4 screws, one on each corner. removing the cover reveals....

and a close up of the memory chip...

The soldering on this seems really bad. You can see this in the close up pic.

The memory chip has the marking - k9lag08u0m, which if i'm not mistaken is in fact a 2GB memory chip?

Thankfully i didn't pay too much for this otherwise i would have been fuming, although how do i correct the firmware to make it see the correct memory size? I've tried reformatting but it still states 7.97gb

Regards

Colin

Wow thats appalling soldering! I'm amazed that it works at all.

Anyway, DO NOT touch the Firmware.

This is the best guide to follow:

The chip looks like it had a whole bottle of solder flux poured over it before soldering commenced.
Also, those pins on the left, looks like it's starting to rust & oxidize?

Well i've now reformatted the player to what it shoud've been in the first place, 2gb.

Thankfully i only paid £24 for this.

I give it about a month and it'll be dead.
