Default chip boards

I bought a MP3,Mp4,MT16 Black,1.8" OLED Screen,FM,4GB from Lotsall. I'm very satisfied with it, although I did get a format error while deleting an mp3 file and ended up reformatting the device and reinstalling all my mp3s.

My question is that at somepoint I'm going to want to upgrade the firmware. Short of opening the unit and looking (not even sure if that will work) does anyone know how I can determine the chip board in my unit? I've emailed Lotsall but all they did was send me a link here to download the mp3 player utilities.

Thanks!

GreenBoots , it is never recommended to upgrade any firmware in your player. Each firmware was coded specifically for each batch of players manufactured.

As cheaper components are found, manufacturers changes the hardware and likewise changes the firmware to suit the hardware change. They change the firmwares without changing the version numbers. So the version numbers do not make any sense at all.

So by flashing in another firmware, even if it states the exact same version, same name, same casing, etc. Most likely 99% you would brick the player instead.

Why are clones called MP4 Players, when they don`t play .MP4 at all?
It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.
