makd511 23rd Oct 2007 1:40 pm

just got my Ainol v900 ATJ2135 player from i-yotta.com

initial thoughts after a quick play are good - but a few problems that need sorting

so far:

really great sound
nice popup menus
can play FLV (most)
wont play my rockchip converted videos

list songs in ALPHABETICAL order NOT by track number _ BAD BAD BAD

playlists
bookmarking of vids and music - great for audio books etc

the player itself (ainol) - well, more to come but its not good

i am still playing so may have mussed things and am intending a full review of the chip and its functions and small review of ainol v900 player

more to come

It surprise me that it weren't able to play your rockchip videos... mine played them without problems

makd511 23rd Oct 2007 10:13 pm

it wont play any of the files i have made with Imtoo dvd ripper, but i just tried a couple of sample files of this site and put them on and they worked - so not sure why my converted files wont work - shame cos i have quite a few now - i will have to investigate the files and encoding settings - you know a good tool for this???

BTW Daremos in the music menu is an option called "level" - any idea what this is??

It's a bad translation for the stars that appears when you press menu one time. It's the level of stars you give to the song from 1 to 5. I think that "ranking" should have be a better translation or "rating"?

I use two tools for that... one is G-Spot which allows you to watch the videos, and the other is MediaInfo here -> MediaInfo
this show info interactively in Windows Browser

makd511 24th Oct 2007 5:32 am

thanks for that Daremos

i had seen and used the star rating but never linked it to "level"

do you or have you discovered a way to list music files in a different order - mine lists the alphabetically and not by track number - so it plays them by alphabet and so in wrong order

That's proper of your V900 firmware, in mine it display all the songs of an Artist by its tracks number within each album without any separation between them. In other words, correctly, but you see just a long list with no further information. I think indeed its a playlist of two levels rather than a catalog.

makd511 24th Oct 2007 6:16 am

no - mine definitely listing by sing tag name.
if i go in by artist then i get long list of all songs by that artist, not list of albums then songs.

BTW mine are in WMA wonder if that is a problem of song order - i will check this by loading album of mp3

BTW firmware version on my player
13.00.10.1015 - and plays FLV - did you say yours could play FLV or not

DaremoS 24th Oct 2007 9:14 am

Re: Inside the Optimus Cosmic player (2.4" 240x340)...

Your version is newer than mine :D
I will pick it up when Ainol put them in their site ;)
Mine doesn't play FLV :(
:) it's version 13.00.10.1012

I think it won't replace it, two Actions can be in the market. One pretty cheap no multitasking and this new one, which have to be enhanced to compete with rockchip and telechip.

Man, these look so good! The interface still sucks, but all the functions you encounter in a Rock-based player seem to be in there also, and more! I gotta get my hands on one of these!

for the BRANDED ainol v900
www.iyotta.com

unbranded but alot cheaper (riolist bought this)
http://www.chinavasion.com/product_i...creen-speaker/

BTW - mine plays FLV (v900) which is big bonus dont know about the chinavision one though

this chip and firmware is in its infancy at the moment so expect improvements over the next few months and hopefully a lot more players adopting this chi

might be worth waiting a while to see what comes up, but if you are like me then maybe you cant wait and just want to get your hands on this baby

think i will buy the chinavision one as a test machine as well

not yet, not sure how long it will take from chinavision - not heard good things about them myself. i am sure he will shout at us when he gets it

got my player from i-yotta to UK in 5 days - well impressed and that was standard hongkong signed for post

i was just looking at it again and the interface is different than mine, graphically speaking and does not have "file navigator " option

time will tell and we will see

DaremoS 26th Oct 2007 5:50 pm

Re: Inside the Optimus Cosmic player (2.4" 240x340)...

The software doesnt have a menu option called "File navigator" or browser... instead it has "dir list" which is almost the same but dependent of the type of media your ar looking at.
To know all the files that are in the device, from the device, it must be used option 9 "data exchange".

Concerning version 13.00.10.1015... I look everyday in www.ainol.com fi they publish the firmware :D

Not yet. I got a package today from China but it was only the fake non-compatible TC260 from ebay (it's a nice player though, plays Rockchip games).

Riolist - have you got it yet, if so what do you think, and it seesm your player stems from the following supplier

http://www.stonelectronics.com/products.asp

the model number match from the pic in chinavision

makd511 9th Nov 2007 3:31 am

problem!!!! (one of many)

i like this player and chip but finding a few problems that take the sihine of it alot

this problem is to do with playlists disappearing

there are 5 ready made list for you to add songs to in this chip.
i can add individual songs to a list or even a whole album in one shot - this is great BUT, when i connect via usb to the computer and then unplug it empties the playlist - no more songs in it

anyone else have this problem

it is very hard to see who makes what - i have seen all the players on sonwy site on many other similar sites so who does actually manufacturer these devices will always remain a mystery - there are certainly many suppliers out there selling the same thing and claiming to be manufacturers.

it is always initially promising to find sites like this as we think, great, maybe they will have the firmware for download! but more often than not their download link is empty or very out of date.

how is your experiences with the ATJ2135 chip player - i am finding a few annoying problems now i have used it for a while??

DaremoS 9th Nov 2007 6:10 am

Re: Inside the Optimus Cosmic player (2.4" 240x340)...

It has problems because it's a sophisticated software with lots of features at a very low cost, I have had problems with mini SD card, so I can't use use it, if it's not a high speed card.
In the beginning I had problems with OGG files but I solved it when I discover that OGG don't allow cover art embedded.

I also have a Meizu M3 which have take me lots of efforts and investigations to make it work as it should. This Meizu player have a very annoying problem when playing some kind of MP3, which it's not the case of ATJ2135 in none of the formats it manage. I hate problems with sound... and this haven't been solved by Meizu.

Teclast C260, other of my players, have started to have some bugs since they upgrade it to have the capability of managing of playlists.

My opinion is... when a software started to add functions, some problems arises...

I hope that support for your Ainol takes this in account and solve them... I sincerely doubt it. Only Meizu Teclast and Onda seems to have a team to deal with firmwares. I have heard that Cowon have it too.

That's why i love the simplicity of Rockchip... not much functions not much problems. :D

PS.: I am waiting for the proper firmwares of my player that the provider (Groven) promised to send me... next week I'll have to write them telling them that they have not fulfil the promise of send it to me this week.

makd511 9th Nov 2007 6:56 am

yeah, i know it is a big step forward for actions with this new chip and i think we knew there would be problems and bugs etc, i was just trying to start the ball rolling in finding and discussing the things that we select few have found with this chip - maybe we need to start collecting the bugs ready to send to someone??

you must be well excited about the developments teclast are making in the firmware, i have been reading up on teclasters and your 260 must be a completely different machine now.

as for meizu having firmware team - i should laugh, did you not have an M6 once - you would laugh (or cry) at the latest firmware - it is a joke, thay need to take a leaf out of teclast book

Ainol - well i hope they do start updates for this player soon as this is why i got a branded player. i wanted updates as i knew there would be changes that need to be made as this chip and firmware are very new and wil need changes making

good luck getting the firmware, BTW have you seen the new firmware editor being developed for rockchip on this site, the developer has also integrated actions firmware editing too - i have asked him to look also at this new actions firmware

DaremoS 9th Nov 2007 7:40 am

Re: Inside the Optimus Cosmic player (2.4" 240x340)...

I did had an M6... I returned it to the provider (we in Chile have 10 days to return a product without explanations and 30 days if something is going bad) I really get a bit disappointed with this "stutter issue" and to deal with 2 Meizu I choose to keep the one than bring me better sound. M3 is also better manufacture than M6.

Maybe in the future I will go for a M6SL or M7 it depends on how much money they ask for it... and if it is connected to the net or not... I sincerely don't want my MP4 to be sort of browser or PDA or whatever is not a music / video player, despite of how technological challenging it is... In fact for this I have my PC, my PDA or my cell phone... each in its own niche and time. On the other hand... I simply hate iPhone!!

The big problem of Meizu have been to get into a race with Apple, wasting efforts, money and engineers to put in the market a monster... a expensive monster... anyway on that way they are learning new technologies that should apply to new products.

Nowadays they seems to be regaining interest in their more popular products, as they are delivering new firmwares frequently.

Sincerely I really like my Meizu M3!!... as my other emulators

DaremoS 9th Nov 2007 7:49 am

Re: Inside the Optimus Cosmic player (2.4" 240x340)...

Sorry I miss one point :D

If dancemammal can do the trick with Actions players it will be a really great... It' just this ATJ2135 is not so simple as other Actions... as aren't the latest firmwares delivered by Teclast and Onda.

Then we will have to strength the afforts to obtain backup of out firmwares. :? :? :?

Not yet. I got an email 2 days ago saying it was shipped so it shouldn't be too much longer. I'll post here when I get it. So that's the manufacturer? It's interesting because they say it only goes up to 2GB but mine is supposed to be 4GB. I wonder if Chinavasion is counting the (missing) sd card in their memory?

dont pay too much attention to the web site info, they could just be another reseller of a generic player, just wait and see when the player arrives - but it is taking a while to come isnt it - i was going to order one from them but i will wait and see how your story ends.

hope you get it soon

Yea I thought it would come sooner but now that it's shipped it shouldn't take long. I'll post pictures and impressions when it arrives.

Ah, you see, I was right  LOL - Glad you were able to get your money back - I recovered most of my original costs too.

I've just bought an interesting player for $50 on Ebay. It plays NES games, xvids at 30 FPS, 1.3MP camera...

It's exactly the same as this one shown on Youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVab3Phkjao

Another review here shows it can be plugged into the TV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nheus0ME0Fs

Just search for "mp4 game*" on ebay....

When I get it, I'll let you all know what it's like.

DaremoS 10th Nov 2007 3:21 pm

Re: Inside the Optimus Cosmic player (2.4" 240x340)...

This is a MP4 Primus that cost here about US$ 75.- so you get a real bargain.

About the M6 I send it back despite that the price was very low for my country normal is sold here for about US$ 270. and I pay US$ 180.- but I returned it not for its image and sound, but for Meizu attitude concerning its bugs.

Riolist 16th Nov 2007 12:45 pm

It finally got here!!! So far i'm VERY impressed. I don't have much time right now to put it through a lot of tests but the amount of features it has is AMAZING. For now, if anyone has any specific questions i'll try to answer them but for now i'll just say this is a NEW ERA in Chinese daps.

pheww!! - that took a while,

first things first, have you got a firmware, and what version is it?

have fun

Riolist 16th Nov 2007 5:16 pm

No firmware on the disk. The version on the player is 10.12.16.0707 It doesn't seem to play FLV files (though I only had one to test) or AMV but it does play Rockchip videos, even one's smaller than 320X240.
